Bioessence’s Pearl Anniversary Promises a new level of care—unlike anything you've experienced before

One of the top beauty brands in the Philippines, Bioessence PH, celebrated a stylish night of caring to commemorate its pearl anniversary.

Since its founding in 1994, Bioessence—a chain of modest three-bed beauty clinics—has expanded into a well-known wellness company with several locations throughout Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon. This significant occasion will pay tribute to the brand's development and dedication to "Caring Beyond Beauty" and offering top-notch services related to wellness and beauty. An evening filled with surprises, entertainment, and a look back at Bioessence's thirty years of existence is in store for thousands of attendees.

The celebration's theme, which stays true to Bioessence's mission of #CaringBeyondBeauty, is focused on new and creative ways to care for everyone outside of the goods and services the company has been providing for the past 30 years. The brand promises an evening that genuinely redefines care, complete with exciting activities planned in addition to networking and socializing amongst beauty and wellness enthusiasts.

Joining in the celebration are significant opinion leaders, stakeholders, devoted patrons, and powerful individuals who have helped Bioessence succeed over the previous thirty years. The Crooner Richard Poon and Bossa Nova singer Sitti from the Philippines will also be performing live at this Pearl Event. MOBB, the winner of the Aliw Award, and up-and-coming vocalists Bugs and Jarlo Base, who also perform original music, will open the evening.

Sneak peek of new products and machines

The company is introducing new OxygenCeuticals (OC) products that are only available at Bioessence clinics, in addition to its signature line. Since 2015, OxygenCeuticals, a South Korean skincare brand based on oxygen, has collaborated with Bioessence.

These items will be on display in an interactive booth where visitors can learn about and interact with the entire current OC product line as well as the new additions. Visitors will be able to test the products out for themselves and learn more about the skin issues that each one targets.

In an effort to broaden the range of services it offers, Bioessence is launching a new device called Harmony to go along with its cutting-edge non-invasive treatments, Exilis and Plasma. This shows that Bioessence offers a comprehensive solution for gorgeous skin and body. Visitors will be able to witness these gadgets in operation at a mock clinic run by knowledgeable trainers and consultants from Bioessence.

Launch of revamped website and apps

Bioessence believes that providing care extends beyond the confines of their clinics and the ease of purchasing products online. They make sure that customers have the greatest experience even before they visit their clinics or use their products by upholding the #CaringBeyondBeauty mission. For this reason, Bioessence has improved service accessibility by redesigning its website.

The new website and Bioessence's new app, ESSIE, will work together to provide real-time service synchronization, reservation schedules, and other important data that is available at all times and from any location. This degree of convenience is something that only Bioessence offers, setting it apart from other top beauty brands and ensuring the smoothest possible user experience.

Apart from the previously mentioned products, Bioessence is going to introduce Perfect Skin, an innovative skin assessment tool. With just one click, this app can detect skin issues with accuracy and speed and recommend the best treatments.

New ambassadress reveal

The announcement of Bioessence PH's new ambassador will be one of the evening's highlights; it's a full-circle moment for someone who genuinely embodies the brand's mission of "Caring Beyond Beauty." This is a significant turning point for the company, particularly considering that their previous celebrity ambassador was announced prior to the pandemic.

A new level of care is promised at Bioessence's Pearl Anniversary event—unlike anything you've ever experienced. This special night has so much to look forward to, and they're just getting started! After the festivities, a significant discount campaign will begin in October and open houses will be held at all 33 branches across the country for the enjoyment of all.

Shaburi Mitsukoshi BGC Holds Grand Opening

Last September 6, the premier Japanese shabu-shabu restaurant Shaburi, which is situated on the second floor of Mitsukoshi BGC, had its grand opening. Mugen Group is the company that brought some of the most well-known Japanese dining concepts to the nation.

“Since we held our soft opening last August, the customer feedback has been really great. This new branch also represents our growth as a company, the hard work of our team, and the support of our loyal customers. We’d like to invite everyone to visit Shaburi at Mitsukoshi BGC to enjoy an authentic Japanese shabu-shabu experience. We’ve created a space for everyone to enjoy great food with family and friends. ~Hubert U. Young, President and CEO of Mugen Group

Mr. Young said that the company's dedication to giving more people in the nation access to great Filipino service and authentic Japanese dining experiences is reflected in the newest location.

The Shaburi Dining Experience

The word "shabu-shabu" and the character "ri," which is pronounced "sato," are the origins of the Shaburi brand name. Shaburi's goal is to showcase genuine Japanese hometown flavors in its menu. Sato means "hometown" or "village" in Japanese.

Shaburi's customized dining concept sets it apart from other shabu-shabu restaurants. Instead of using the communal pot, each customer is given their own hot pot here. Additionally, customers have the option of selecting a single or twin pot.

Quality Meats, Broths, and More

Quality meats, delectable broths, and a variety of Japanese side dishes like sushi rolls, tempura, chawanmushi, and karaage are all part of Shaburi's delectable menu.

The restaurant offers a variety of tasty soup options, such as Chicken Collagen Paitan, a thick and creamy white chicken soup made with abundant collagen, which is ideal for people who want smooth skin, and Original Konbu, its well-known broth made with kombucha, the King of Seaweeds, which has a natural umami taste and is low in calories but high in minerals.

Other soup options include Beef Pepper, a delicate soup that pairs well with beef, Sukiyaki, a traditional Japanese broth that strikes a balance between sweet and savory flavors, and Hot Miso, which has a tasty spiciness and offers the health benefits of miso.

In contrast, Shaburi's meat options include tender chicken, flavorful beef, pork belly, and low-fat pork. Additionally, customers can choose from premium meat options like WagyuAngus Beef, and Iberico Pork Collar.

The recent New Orleans Spirits Competition recognized Especia Spiced Rum with a gold medal and Best in Category honors. Judged by a group of distinguished specialists, the competition honors premium libations and spirits from world-class producers.

A gold medal signifies that Especia Spiced Rum excelled in several areas, including flavor, balance, aroma, and finish. An heirloom sugarcane product, Especia Spiced Rum is infused with exotic spices and tropical fruits. It has been Tanduay's most awarded product in recent years.

“Tanduay’s victory at the New Orleans Spirits Competition not only showcases our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and quality; it also solidifies the brand’s standing as a leader in the premium spirits industry.” ~Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay International Business Development Manager

Tanduay Asian Rum Gold and Tanduay Double Rum each took home bronze medals, but Tanduay Asian Rum Silver took home a silver medal.

Tanduay Asian Rum Silver is another award-winning product. It is aged for up to five years in bourbon barrels and tastes like green, ripe fruits with subtle notes of vanilla, mandarin, and burnt sugar. Its unique and pure flavor makes it ideal for mixing into cocktails or for sipping on its own.

Meanwhile, the highly praised Tanduay Asian Rum Gold is a dark rum with notes of vanilla, tropical fruit, coconut, and nutmeg, and a decent balance of sweetness and alcohol content. It is kept in bourbon barrels for up to seven years.

Tanduay Double Rum, another well-received product, is a mixture of rums aged for 16 and 5 years, mixed for two years in bourbon barrels. Its unique flavor, which is enhanced by the aging process, makes it a smooth-drinking rum with a pleasing balance of flavors throughout.

As the rum brand commemorates its 170th anniversary this year, Tanduay's victory at the New Orleans Spirits Competition represents yet another noteworthy accomplishment.

The Tales of Cocktail Foundation hosts the New Orleans Spirits Competition. Prominent figures in the industry, award-winning distillers and bartenders, celebrated beverage writers, and industry professionals comprise the judging panel.

SM City Baguio's Rainwater Treatment Facility: A Model for Water Sustainability

SM City Baguio's groundbreaking rainwater treatment facility has treated over 17,000 cubic meters of rainwater into drinkable water.

Through the July 2023 launch of its innovative rainwater treatment facility (RTF), SM City Baguio is leading the way in water stewardship. Since then, the facility has converted over 17,111.80 cubic meters of rainwater—enough to fill over 6,800 standard water tankers or seven Olympic-sized swimming pools—into drinkable water for the use of the SM mall's tenants as well as for its own operations.

This project greatly improves the city's water security and citizen safety by supplying the mall with additional water from the Baguio Water District. Situated in the mall's lower level, the RTF supplies thirty percent of the mall's average monthly need for potable water for food preparation and consumption.

"There is a critical need for reliable and safe water sources. And SM City Baguio's rainwater treatment facility is a commendable initiative that directly addresses this need. We hope that other private establishments can adopt similar projects for the efficient use of our water resources." ~Benjamin Magalong, Baguio City Mayor

The RTF uses a painstaking six-step treatment procedure, and to guarantee peak performance, parameters are checked in real time and equipment is monitored. The city's accredited testing facility regularly tests the processed water, and it continuously passes all water portability requirements.

The rainwater treatment facility (RTF) of SM City Baguio utilizes a rigorous six-step treatment process with real-time monitoring, ensuring processed water always adheres to portability requirements.

"This facility is a testament to SM Prime Holdings' commitment to sustainable operations and to the well-being of the communities we serve. By maximizing rainwater harvesting and treatment, we are not only reducing our reliance on the city's water supply but also contributing to a healthier and more resilient Baguio City." ~Engr. Liza Silerio, SM Supermalls’ Vice President and Sustainability and Resilience Head

The RTF has an effect that goes beyond the mall. Water haulers have been able to serve more households because they are no longer as dependent on the city's water supply, especially during times of water scarcity that the entire city has experienced.

The rainwater treatment facility of SM City Baguio is a prime example of how companies can contribute significantly to solving pressing community needs by using creative and sustainable solutions.

As it continues to create creative and sustainable lifestyle cities, SM Prime is dedicated to its role as an engine for economic growth, improving the lives of millions of people in the process. SM Prime is working to create sustainable cities of the future by exploring the next frontier in integrated property development.

SM Prime: Engineering a Sustainable Future

SM Prime gathers the community for a #SMWasteFreeFuture.

Nowadays, sustainability is a key factor in all sectors of the economy. One of Asia's top integrated property developers, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), elevates sustainability through a strategic framework that makes use of its broad operations, substantial economic impact, and cultural influence.

SM Prime embarked on its sustainability journey in the 1990s, driven by a determination to be resilient and pragmatic. The organization has always placed a higher importance on substance than style, choosing tactics based on practical application over glitzy, temporary solutions.  Its approach is based on what matters most to the company and the community it serves, making sure that its sustainability initiatives are successful and long-lasting.

Together for a sustainable future is the succinct and impactful message that SM Prime used to introduce its Sustainability Ambition Roadmap in its 2023 Annual Integrated Report. This goal is in line with the company's mission to create and manage creative, sustainable, and integrated real estate developments that improve everyone's quality of life.

SM Prime’s sustainability strategy is built on three main goals:
  1. Environmental sustainability
  2. Prosperity for all
  3. Climate resilience

SM Prime established three main objectives to be pursued, based on its sustainability framework of Economy, People, Planet, and Community: Environmental sustainability, Prosperity for All, and Climate Resilience. These goals are all intended to create a future characterized by sustainability, resilience, and widespread prosperity by 2030, 2040, and beyond.

The company has launched two noteworthy programs under its environmental sustainability strategy: Net Zero by 2040 and #SMWasteFreeFuture.

Net Zero by 2040

With a primary focus on climate action toward a net-zero business, SM Prime is dedicated to improving people's quality of life through stepping up climate action, lowering disaster risks, investing in resilient design, preserving biodiversity, and putting strategic CSR programs into place. The World-Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature-Philippines and the company have been working together to set science-based goals that are in line with the global commitment to achieve net-zero by 2050.

“We understand the magnitude of the challenges we face to achieve our Net-Zero commitment. SM Prime is determined to take action and meet its climate commitments. This is one of our top agendas in sustainability.” ~Jeffrey C. Lim, SM Prime President and CEO

SM City Santa Rosa's solar photovoltaic (PV) system has 5,772 panels at 3.088 MWp capacity and has an annual solar energy production of up to 4.292GWh.

#SMWasteFreeFuture

SM Prime launched its vision for an #SMWasteFreeFuture, in support of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) International Day of Zero Waste. The program introduces a simple segregation scheme: Recyclable, Disposable, and Compostable (RDC), all aimed at reducing overall waste generation and increasing the waste diversion rate from landfills through sustainable disposal methods. The initiative was launched nationwide for SM employees and across all SM property groups and stakeholders.

SM Prime continues to support existing programs and partnerships that promote better waste management solutions. Initiatives such as SM Supermalls’ Trash-to-Cash recycling market, Plastic Waste Collection and E-Waste Collection programs, and regular coastal and estero clean-up activities effectively engage the community in rethinking their relationship with waste.

To address food waste, SM Hotels and Convention Corporation (SMHCC) has pioneered projects such as The Sustainable Diner with WWF-PH, diverting 198,640 kg of food waste through bokashi composting and 40,013 kg through biodigesters. SMHCC also launched Tela Tales, a program that recycles condemned linens.

SM Prime leads the way in sustainable development, integrating sustainability into its core business strategy.

SM Development Corporation (SMDC) recently partnered with Globe and Scholars of Sustenance Philippines for the Hapag Movement, aimed at targeting food waste and involuntary hunger affecting millions of Filipinos.

“As a community, we strongly believe in our ability to contribute to solving today's waste issues. We understand that this may seem like a daunting challenge to overcome. However, by joining forces, we can create a world that our future generations truly deserve – if we have the courage to take on this journey together.” ~Hans “Chico” Sy, Jr., President of SM Engineering Design and Development Corporation (SMEDD) and SM Sustainability Champion

Water stewardship

By putting cutting-edge water conservation and management techniques into practice, SM Prime is dedicated to water stewardship and makes sure that newly developed properties are more responsive and adaptable to the shifting needs of communities.

Wastewater is treated at its sewage water treatment plants so that it can be reused and contaminated water is kept out of the nearby waterways. Malls use recycled water for air conditioning, water closet flushing, and greening of the landscape.

SM City Baguio’s Rainwater Filtration Facility addresses water security and ensures a safe and sufficient water supply for the operations of the mall and its tenants.

SM Prime Holdings, Inc.’s Chairman Henry T. Sy, Jr. receives SM Prime’s 30th Listing Anniversary Plaque from the Philippine Stock Exchange’s President and CEO Ramon S. Monzon.

Prosperity for all

The advancements of SM Prime spur socioeconomic growth and benefit all parties involved in a concrete way. Henry Sy founded the business, and it is still dedicated to realizing his goal of bringing top-notch developments to the Philippines. A vision that is aptly demonstrated by the Mall of Asia Complex, which provides a model for future cities that embrace a comprehensive approach to urban development and go beyond commercial success.

On July 23, SM Prime commemorated the company's 30 years of being publicly traded, marking three decades of dedication and revolutionary expansion in the Philippine real estate sector.

“True leadership is marked by a solid dedication to collective success. Our journey at SM Prime demonstrates the power of dreaming big and the incredible achievements that follow when you pursue those dreams with determination and hard work.” ~Jeffrey C. Lim, SM Prime President and CEO

Embracing Net Zero: The Philippines' Urgent Call to Climate Action

The Philippines is vulnerable to typhoons, as demonstrated by recent extreme weather events, especially as we approach typhoon season.

It is obvious that participating in the international discussion on reaching net zero emissions is essential as the country struggles with the possible fallout. The necessity for the Philippines to take a leading role in the fight against climate change has been brought to light by this typhoon, both to lessen its effects going forward and to help find global solutions.

The idea of "net zero" entails matching the quantity of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere with an equal amount extracted. Achieving net zero is a critical first step toward improving climate resilience for the Philippines, a nation that is regularly targeted by severe weather. The nation cannot afford to take a backseat in the international effort to tackle climate change, as demonstrated by the recent typhoon. Rather, it needs to take the lead in supporting and putting into practice policies that advance the global net zero goal.

Utilizing its wealth of natural resources to shift to renewable energy sources is one of the main areas where the Philippines can have a big influence. Increased investments in hydroelectric, solar, and wind power can help the country lessen its dependency on fossil fuels and, consequently, its carbon footprint.

In addition to being essential for reaching net zero, this shift will make the energy infrastructure more robust and less vulnerable to disruptions from extreme weather.

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. acknowledges that mitigating and adapting to climate change are equally urgent and important. We are allocating 10% of our Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) to disaster resilience design and sustainability as part of our strategy.

To support this commitment, SM Prime has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2040. We have committed to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an internationally recognized standard for corporate decarbonization targets, as the top integrated sustainable property developer in the nation.

This makes us one of the few corporations in the Philippines to do so. To ensure our near and long-term science-based targets for 2030 and 2040 align with the global commitment to achieve net zero by 2050, SM Prime collaborates with the World-Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF) through their Corporates for a Better Planet Initiative (CBPI) program. We are among the select few companies in the Philippines to do this. Through the WWF's Corporates for a Better Planet Initiative (CBPI) program, SM Prime works with the World-Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF) to make sure that our short- and long-term science-based targets for 2030 and 2040 are in line with the worldwide commitment to achieve net zero by 2050.

Concrete steps, like the installation of solar panels on-site at multiple properties and strategic alliances for the procurement of renewable energy, are taken to support this audacious goal. These programs show that sustainable practices can be incorporated into regular business operations, not only lowering the company's carbon footprint but also creating a model for other companies to follow.

This commitment puts climate action at the forefront as one of SM Prime's sustainability agenda. It pledges to advance every person's right to a better quality of life through increased climate action, disaster risk reduction, biodiversity protection, and our strategic corporate social responsibility programs.

Lowering one's carbon footprint through the use of solar panels or other renewable energy sources reduces greenhouse gas emissions and the need for non-renewable energy sources.

Reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a decreased dependency on non-renewable energy are the results of using solar panels or other renewable energy sources to lessen one's carbon footprint.

Collaborative partnerships for climate resilience

Ms. Jessica Bianca Sy, Lead Executive for Design, Innovation and Strategy for SM Prime and SMDC, shares her insights on sustainable and climate-resilient integrated properties.

Developing our ability to respond, recover, and adapt to intensifying climate impacts is a national priority and shared responsibility, as the Philippines tops the list of nations with the highest risk of disaster.

“Any program that aims to build climate resilience requires strong partnerships and working together across all sectors. There is definite opportunity for platforms or networks to come together and bring to life our national policies and our commitments, but for these to succeed, there needs to be sincere effort and openness to work across different sectors and disciplines. Finding the right champions within the company – that’s very important. It helps to engage the leaders from the top. WWF-PH is pleased to work with SM Prime on their decarbonization efforts through our Corporates for a Better Planet Initiative (CBPI) program.  Companies such as SM Prime are guided in identifying climate-related risks, working on a roadmap, and publicly committing to their science-based targets. Change does not happen overnight. This is something we have learned in our work with communities all over the country. True partners are willing to work together for a long time, and actively listen to each other. When your project positively impacts people’s livelihood and wellbeing - when people’s lives improve in a durable way, that’s when you know you’ve created an impact. ~Katherine Custodio, World-Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-PH) Executive Director

A city's ability to prosper is a result of its developers' ability to provide opportunities for growth, collaboration, and mobility. It combines the celebration of life to the fullest with a strong focus on the community.

“At SM Prime (SMPHI), we dream big for our shared future. True prosperity transcends financial success. Our commitment to developing sustainable integrated properties is matched by our efforts to foster vibrant, inclusive communities wherever we build legacy properties that weather the challenges of time and that last for generations. We are developing this living framework together with our knowledge partners. Currently the ambition is to combine our efforts and actionable items under six themes of – transport, energy, water, biodiversity, built form and materials. We believe this will be the future of cities in the Philippines and we are committed to delivering it to our future generations. ” ~Ms. Jessica Bianca Sy, Lead Executive for Design, Innovation and Strategy for SMPHI and SM Development Corporation (SMDC)

Sy will be attending the 7th Annual Conference of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities - Sustainable Cities and Landscapes Conference and Student Symposium 2024 (APRU-SCL 2024), where she will be joining a distinguished group of local and international professors, climate specialists, and government officials.

"Advancing Sustainable Cities and Communities through Science, Technology, and Innovation" is the theme for this year's three-day conference.

SM Prime is a prominent integrated property developer in Asia, and the company places great emphasis on disaster resilience and sustainability in all of its projects. Disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience are top priorities in the Philippines, a nation susceptible to climate change, with the aim of bringing these initiatives to the city level.

Rapid urbanization raises energy demand, calling for creative and effective renewable energy solutions. In order to systematically control energy use and progress toward net-zero emissions, SM Prime has partnered with franchise holders.

According to Sy, SM Prime is approaching utility infrastructure for upcoming large-scale master planned developments from a systems perspective, incorporating it into the urban design guidelines at the precinct or plot level.

Sy considers this well-defined vision to be a crucial component of the future.

As it continues to create creative and sustainable lifestyle cities, SM Prime is dedicated to its role as an engine for economic growth, improving the lives of millions of people in the process.
