Any bowl of hot, authentic ramen from Ramen Nagi is always a treat, but the ramen chain just keeps on giving us new flavors to rave about.

Ramen Nagi has given us innovative ramen bowls such as the Tom Yum King, the Crab King, and who could forget the Unbelievable Niboshi King? Ramen Nagi has been creating new hot bowls of ramen and partnering it with flavors we’ve only dreamed about.

This time around, Ramen Nagi has partnered with Bolzico Beef to create another king-worthy bowl of ramen - the Bolzico Sukiyaki King.

Definitely a hot bowl of ramen fit for a king!

It is truly a hearty meal that offers a medley of flavors and beef that simply melts in your mouth.  This special treat will only be available for a limited time!

Key projects in this 2023 MOU will include joint marketing and promotions, and joint business development in the areas of fly-cruise and meetings and incentive corporate groups.

“We are delighted to renew our partnership with Cebu Pacific, which contributed greatly to Singapore’s strong tourism numbers for 2022. Filipino indie pop/rock band the vowels they orbit drops sophomore EP, tuloy tuloy tuloy!

Filipino indie pop/rock band the vowels they orbit drops sophomore EP, tuloy tuloy tuloy!

The second EP from the Filipino indie pop/rock band the vowels they orbit, titled tuloy tuloy tuloy!, has finally been released. the eagerly awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, Ang Unang Ikot.

The new EP, which was released by Sony Music Entertainment, shows improvement in both music and lyrics without losing the well-rounded charm that made them an instant favorite when they first came out.

In terms of themes, tuloy tuloy tuloy! talks about not letting heartbreak get the best of you and going out into the world with a newfound sense of determination even when things get harder than usual. The EP also discusses the idea of taking control of your own story to make it better and accepting your brokenness with the hope that you will one day heal and improve.

Filipino indie pop/rock band the vowels they orbit drops sophomore EP, tuloy tuloy tuloy!

“It is about finding ourselves caught in the cycle of our own emotions, yet still choosing to move forward. Because this EP is a continuation of the first, the phase of emotions is a bit heavier — from coping with the unfamiliar feeling of life without your first love in ‘Una’ to dealing with grief and the loss of a loved one in ‘Clutch.’ However, it does end on a high note with ‘If You Come Back To Me,’ talking about being sure of oneself and not relying on another to live and grow. In the next phase, we are looking forward to more healed feelings.” ~The Selos act shares in a collective statement

The vowels they orbit’s new EP, tuloy tuloy tuloy! is produced by Rye Sarmiento, guitarist of 6cyclemind and Banda Ni Kleggy, and was recorded in his studio, Backdoor Recording Studio, during a 6-day lock-in session in 2021. Inspired by iconic alt-pop acts The Cardigans and Moonpools & Caterpillars, Sarmiento wanted to capture the ‘90s sound in terms of arrangement and vibe, but made it a point to retain the band’s indie pop influences with a more organic, rock-oriented direction.
“We also gave attention to the performances of each member, doing what they do best individually while still keeping their chemistry as one band.”

The majority of the songs from tuloy tuloy tuloy! were written and sung by lead vocalist/guitarist Nikka Melchor. Keyboardist Hannah dela Cruz wrote and performed “Clutch,” and Jeremy’s father, Ponciano Sayas, penned “Here In My Arms,” in which drummer Jeremy is a featured vocalist. The end result is a project that feels singular, yet distinctly unique in their surprising ways.

Aside from “Una,” “Bangungot,” “Clutch,” “Here In My Arms,” and “If You Come Back To Me,” the EP also features the focus track “Sandali,” which talks about the importance of slowing down and finding the light amidst everything.

According to the five-piece act, the song was written by Nikka during the start of the pandemic, thus the lyrics. However, she realized that the message can still be applied to life, in general.
“With so much going on, we tend to wonder when it will end.”

The EP release will be accompanied by a launch on March 11, 2023 (Saturday) at the 70s Bistro in Quezon City, featuring performances by the vowels they orbit, I Belong To The Zoo, Autotelic, syd hartha, Better Days, Hey June!, and Banda Ni Kleggy.

the vowels they orbit’s ‘tuloy tuloy tuloy!' is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

FOR KING + COUNTRY scores multi-format hit with “Love Me Like I Am,” featuring American R&B star Jordin Sparks

For King & Country

Multi-GRAMMY® award-winning duo FOR KING + COUNTRY is currently making waves with the crossover success of “Love Me Like I Am,”  their current single featuring American R&B superstar Jordin Sparks.

Aside from topping Billboard’s Christian Airplay charts (dated February 25, 2023), the multi-format smash has recently entered Billboard’s Adult Top 40 charts at No. 31 and Billboard’s Adult Contemporary charts at No. 17, becoming one of the biggest hits in the US by an Australian act this year. To date, the soulful ballad has amassed more than 30 million streams on Spotify alone.

The Christian pop duo, which recently headlined Manila’s Found Music Festival in 2019 at Circuit Makati, also expressed their intent of going back to the Philippines sometime in the future.

“You know, we hope to always come back to the places that we’ve been, because every country has its own individual culture—taking part in that was a thrill for us. By visiting different cultures around the world, you can learn something from each of them. We just enjoyed being able to spend time with our Filipino friends.” ~Luke Smallbone

Joel and Luke Smallbone

Their song “Love Me Like I Am” will be serviced in Philippine radio soon, thanks to its crossover appeal and inspiring universality that resonate to fans all over the world. A soaring pop tune that recognizes the fact that we all make mistakes, “Love Me Like I Am” highlights the importance of seeking and practicing forgiveness.

“I think, sometimes in today’s society, we feel like if we make a mistake, that puts us at odds, and we can’t be loved anymore. The truth is if we all made mistakes, that means all of us would never be able to accept this wonderful gift called love. I think ‘Love Me Like I Am’ is obviously talking about heavenly love but I think it’s also a challenge for us to love our families that way. The gift of practicing forgiveness is probably the most important attribute of the world. And, I think, for us, that is what this song is talking about. Is love for people, mistakes, and all. And, look, people will live very differently when they recognize how deeply loved they really are.” ~Luke Smallbone

“Love Me Like I Am,” featuring Jordin Sparks, is part of FOR KING + COUNTRY’s chart-topping fifth studio album, What Are We Waiting For?, released via Curb | World Entertainment last year. The album reached No. 1 on iTunes in multiple countries, and debuted at No. 2 Billboard US’s Top Albums, No. 1 on Billboard US Top Christian Albums, and No. 7 on Billboard US Albums Chart.

Take care of your kidneys and help #STOPCKD

Chronic kidney disease and Filipinos requiring dialysis continue to increase. The Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN) is calling on Filipinos to take care of their kidneys as chronic kidney disease (CKD)—while it can be slowed down—cannot be completely cured with medications.

Referring to data from the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), the PSN revealed that one Filipino develops chronic renal failure every hour, or about 120 Filipinos per million population every year. Worse, it remains underdiagnosed.

“All of us need to be informed of the importance of our kidneys to our general health. Everyone needs to be aware of the risk factors and signs and symptoms of kidney disease, and see a doctor for proper diagnosis even those without symptoms but are at risk. Majority have no symptoms, especially in early CKD, and so it is best to check with your doctor if you think you are at risk. All the more that those with signs and symptoms such as fatigue, poor appetite, edema, nausea and vomiting, decreased urine, etc., should see a nephrologist.” ~Dr. Maaliddin B. Biruar, PSN President

As the country observes World Kidney Day on March 9, PSN is reminding Filipinos that the kidneys are important to overall health and becoming informed about CKD is a great first step to prevent or managing the disease.

World Kidney Day is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of kidneys not only to one’s overall health but also to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease worldwide.

In keeping with the observance of World Kidney Day this year, the PSN is undertaking a lay forum that targets informing Filipino patients about kidney functions and CKD—its risk factors and causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests for the disease, and golden rules for healthy kidneys.

Risk factors include high blood sugar, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, smoking, age over 60 years, and family history.

Stop CKD
The lay forum, slated on March 09 at the Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu, will also launch PSN’s initiative dubbed #StopCKD, an online self-awareness test to know one’s risk for kidney disease.

“By filling out a simple questionnaire, our fellow Pinoys can find out if they might have silent CKD now.” ~Dr. Juliet Chua Chong - Noel, President of PSN Central and Eastern Visayas

Who will be leading the celebration in Cebu. The questionnaire can be accessed thru https://az.app.box.com/v/know-your-CKD-risk.

According to Dr. Vimar A. Luz, Head of Cluster of Patient Care and Member of PSN’s Board of Trustees, damage to the nephrons, the functional units that make up the kidneys, cannot be recovered, making CKD lifelong. But early intervention can improve outcomes, he added.

The consequences of CKD extend beyond the kidneys, including all-cause mortality, hospitalization, impact on multiple organ systems, and progression to End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) requiring dialysis, among others, the PSN said.

Lifestyle change
For his part, Dr. Luz said that apart from getting screened for possible CKD, Filipinos can start following some golden rules for healthy kidneys.

“This disease can be prevented. A lifestyle change can save the kidneys. This golden rule will help in keeping the kidneys healthy. Control blood pressure and blood sugar. The target BP should be lower than 140/90 or as determined by your physician. Blood sugar control level is individualized, so see your doctor about it.  And if you’re under medication, take your medicines regularly. Our kidneys filter around 140 liters of blood daily to create 1-1.8 liters of urine. They’re hardworking organs and important to our overall health, so it is best to take care of them. And Filipinos requiring dialysis continue to increase.” ~Dr. Vimar A. Luz, Head of Cluster of Patient Care and Member of PSN’s Board of Trustees

Dr. Luz said another golden rule is to eat a healthy diet of vegetables and fruits; lean meat and fish; whole grains; and low in added sugar, sodium, and fat. Exercising regularly, drinking adequate water volume, quitting smoking, now abusing the use of pain relievers and supplements, and having regular checkups are the other golden rules Filipinos could follow, he added.

To date, more than seven million have CKD in the Philippines.

Citing data from the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation, the medical society said CKD had significantly increased as one of the top causes of death in the Philippines. In a span of 10 years, CKD jumped from 6th place in 2009 to 4th place in 2019 among the leading causes of death in the country.

"Today, we express our love once again to our special friends in our midst. Today, we show that we care about their well-being. Today, we show that we shall always walk in solidarity to ensure that they have a bright future. We walk today because we seek to foster love, understanding, and hope through this yearly activity, because we act to get integration of persons with disabilities in our community. We want to bring positive change to ensure that people with Down Syndrome have opportunities to contribute and have their rights guaranteed. This SM Cares Program on Disability Affairs is something that is etched already in our business. We don't just do programs for short-term. If we may mention, this is our 16th year of partnership with DSAPI. We are not doing this just for fun. We are doing this because we believe this is the right thing to do." ~Engr. Bien Mateo, SM Cares Program Director for Persons with Disabilities

This was one of the key points of SM Cares Program Director for Persons with Disabilities, Engr. Bien Mateo's speech at the 2023 Happy Walk for Down Syndrome of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI); which took place last February 26 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.

The recently concluded event marked its 20th year overall and the 16th year that DSAPI held it in partnership with SM Cares. This was also the first time that it was held physically after three years, and was held simultaneously in Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and Bacolod.

Among the key individuals who graced the event, aside from Mateo, were DSAPI President Luis Harder, DSAPI Chairman Elmer Lapena, and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of SM Prime Hans Sy. Representatives from various Down Syndrome communities and advocacy groups were also present during the event.

A total of 3768 participants attended the Manila leg this year, while Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and Bacolod posted final counts of 580, 140, and 250 participants, respectively. Overall, the nationwide event garnered 4,738 participants.

A total of 354 SM employees and companions for Manila Happy Walk from SM Supermalls, SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc., SM Engineering Design and Development, SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., SM Markets, SM Prime Holdings Inc., SM Development Corp., SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc., and SM Family Entertainment Center Inc. also joined the event.

One of the highlights was the Happy Walk Parade wherein people with Down Syndrome and their loved ones walked together throughout the SM Mall of Asia Complex. An annual tradition, the parade is a way for people with Down Syndrome and their families to promote awareness, acceptance, and appreciation for those with the condition.

Prior to the parade, the National University Pep Squad gave a rousing performance and led a cheer for Down Syndrome awareness. Later during the event, actor and Down Syndrome awareness advocate Andrea Torres performed special song and dance numbers that wowed the crowd. She also shared a short message on the importance of caring for people with the condition, being sister to one herself.

Another notable part of the event was the Dance ShowDOWN, wherein several children with Down Syndrome showcased their groovy dance moves on stage. Various booths with activities for the participants, such as drawing and games, were also present throughout the half-day event. To make it even more exciting, there were also raffle draws, where gift cheques, insurance packages, gadgets, and a 4K smart TV were given away to winners.

The event was capped off with a dance number to Ronnie Lee's song "Natatanging Nilalang" performed by children with Down Syndrome. Composed with a fondness for those who have the condition (he himself has a nephew who has Down Syndrome), Lee's song highlights all the characteristics that make these individuals special, and is one of empowerment not only for them, but also for their loved ones.
