Aster Clinic Pioneers Paperless System through its EMR Technology

Just months after it officially launched its Philippine operations, the Aster Medical and Diagnostics Clinic, owned by Aster DM Healthcare, is revolutionizing how medical services is being offered in the country through the introduction of the electronic medical records (EMR) as part of the value-add to its services. All transactions are paperless, from the moment patients sign in at the reception up to their consultations with the doctor, or different doctors at the clinic.
The goal of EMR is to provide a centralized database that will allow Aster DM Healthcare’s network a seamless delivery of care to its patients. Through the EMR technology, patients are unburdened of the inconvenience of repeating the basic information and details of their concerns over and over again. Their records are inputted in the clinic’s records and will be updated every time they visit or consultations are made, which the doctors in our network can easily refer to for background information.

Joyce Alumno, President & Country Manager, Aster DM Healthcare – Philippines stressed that this technology lessens the room for error. With everything documented in one system, patients no longer need to recall past tests or results giving our doctors more accurate background information about their patients. This also eliminates the unnecessary stress of waiting for feedback or doctor’s orders for the reference of the billing section.

“This technology streamlines the flow of information across our network. Check-ups, as it is, is already stressful and in Aster, we are committed to delivering our promise of treating patients well. From the moment they are welcomed in our reception area and all throughout the process, we want to make it as convenient and stress-free as we possibly can,” ~ Joyce Alumno

The EMR technology is one of the standard services in Aster’s network and is proud to bring this technology to the Philippines, which is their first operation in the whole Southeast Asian region.

“We are proud to pioneer this technology in the Philippines. One at a time, we are bringing in systems and technologies that help transform how we do our medical services today,” she highlighted.
“What started as a way of giving back to the Filipino community paved the way for an opportunity to see what is missing and where we can provide help in an organized manner. Setting up clinics and hospitals is something that we have been doing in the past 28 years across the GCC region, Middle East, and India, and we are hoping to do the same in the Philippines,” Alumno said.

Aster DM Healthcare is one of the largest healthcare conglomerates in the Gulf Region, Middle East, and India. Founded by Dr. Azad Moopen, the Dubai-based healthcare conglomerate is committed in delivering quality and affordable healthcare in the countries where it is present. It first made it presence in the Philippines through its non-profit arm, Dr. Moopen’s (DM) Foundation, when it launched its “Save the Little Hearts” program that granted surgeries to children with congenital heart defects.

Aster DM Healthcare, the Dubai-headquartered healthcare conglomerate now operates a network of more than 290 establishments covering an array of healthcare verticals – from hospitals, medical centers, pharmacies, diagnostics and specialty centers, healthcare consultancy service, academics & research to a medical college and an advanced medical city.

CDC Holdings Completes Manila Rivercity Residences

CDC Holdings, Inc., one of the leading real estate developers in the country, recently completed the construction and turnover of units for its newest project – the Manila Rivercity Residences in Sta. Ana, Manila.
Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry - current president Mr Angel Ngu, past honorary president Mr Tan Ching and vice president Dr. Cecilio Pedro. Also present were Manila City Hall's Engr. Roberto Bernardo and Engr. Roger Legaspi and the president of SEC Elevators, Mr Suzuki Takao, President of SEC Elevators, ECD, CDC, Engr. Roberto Bernardo, Manila City Engineer, Engr. Roger Legaspi, Manila City Building Official and Mr David Chua
With all the property’s nine towers now completed, the company has fulfilled its commitment to help more families realize their dream of living in their own homes. Through the Manila Rivercity Residences, nestled along the historic and scenic Pasig River, CDC Holdings has once again built one of the most exciting and dynamic communities in the area.

“From an old, dilapidated warehouse, CDC Holdings transformed this site into one of the most attractive real estate investment you can find at this location, at this price and at this quality,” shared Elsie Chuathe company’s president and CEO“The vision that I have of providing value for money homes at convenient location is a reality with Manila Rivercity Residences.”

The event was also highlighted with the turnover of the keys to homeowners signaling the community’s involvement in ensuring that the quality will be properly managed and maintained. “The challenge now is how to preserve and even enhance the units and amenities that have been turned over to the residents. CDC built the buildings, but it is up to each and every one of the homeowners to create a sense of community,” she added.

Offering a relaxing retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle, the property is comprised of nine medium-rise buildings, named after the world’s most famous rivers: Nile, Dnieper, Blue Danube, Colorado, Euphrates, Rhine, Amazon, Kumagawa and Yangtze. Amid the urban chaos, the Manila Rivercity Residences serves as a sanctuary for families through its spacious studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units.

Chua says the success of this latest project validates CDC Holdings’ formula of providing quality homes at affordable prices at convenient location. Manila Rivercity Residences is ideally accessible, making a comfortable commute to or from the neighboring districts of Manila, Makati City or Mandaluyong City. What’s more, various commercial establishments, renowned schools and reputable medical facilities are within easy reach from CDC’s riverside condominium community.
Kathleen Cruz has been a resident in Manila Rivercity Residences for a long time. Her family owns a one-bedroom unit in Nile Tower and has now added a two-bedroom unit in the new Yangtze Tower.
Inside the gated community of Manila Rivercity Residences, residents will feel like they have been transported to a different world – one that spells relaxation and tranquility. Families can bond together and enjoy the property’s host of recreational facilities.
Residents can spend some rest and recreation time at the landscaped boardwalk facing the Pasig River. Built with viewing decks that are made of eco-friendly material, gazebos and play areas, it is the perfect spot to unwind during the weekends. Families can also host barbeque and pool parties, as the Manila Rivercity Residences offers a well-appointed pool area with two fountains and falls, as well as barbeque pits. Residents can also wander freely and safely even in the evenings, as CDC is in the process of putting LED lights on common areas.

For CDC Holdings, its dedication to make its residents feel at home in every community that it builds is an ongoing commitment. As a result, the company is in the process of adding more features in the Manila Rivercity Residences, such as the installation of CCTV in the roof deck, elevators and main lobbies of all buildings, as well as the future implementation of garbage segregation. CDC Holdings will also launch soon the Kids Club, wherein resident kids can register to receive exclusive perks during their birthdays, participate in monthly activities such as Summer Carnival and craft sessions, and claim other exciting giveaways.
Among the residents who feel at home with CDC Holding’s property is 30-year old Kathleen Cruz, a branch head of a large retail store. Cruz, with her husband and four-year old daughter, are among the first occupants of the Manila Rivercity Residences when they bought a one-bedroom unit in the project’s Nile Tower. After making it their happy home for five years, they decided to purchase another unit in the same community – this time a two-bedroom in Yangtze Tower.

Accessibility and value for money were their main consideration for making Manila Rivercity Residences their home, according to Cruz. “We have seen a lot of developments in our line of work, and we can say that what CDC offered us is very competitive in terms of price,” Cruz says. What Cruz loves most about living in the Manila Rivercity Residences is the feeling of haven it gives to her family. “After a hard day at work, you just want to come home to a place that will be like your sanctuary, a place that will make you really feel at home,” Cruz shares. “It really feels like a community, and CDC is taking efforts to make us feel at home, even down to the little details.”

Just like the Cruz family, the Manila Rivercity Residences offers homeowners a smart way of living, with its excellent location, move-in ready units, and superb features and amenities.

Meeting Mark Zuckerberg and My Facebook Friends Day Experience

Last January 31, 2016, Fellow Filipino Abby Asistio flew to San Francisco and had the wonderful opportunity of being chosen as one of the eighteen invited by Facebook on their 12th Anniversary Friends Day celebration with California-based Alopecia awareness advocate, Rachel Regal.  Alopecia is an autoimmune condition which results in partial or total head and body hair loss.  Abby Asistio have had it since she was four while Rachel just developed it sometime in 2012, the same year she discovered that her 10-year-old daughter, Eliana, had it, too.  Six inspiring stories were picked by Facebook among its 1.64 billion users and Abby’s friends were all amazed when theye’ve found out that Abby’s Alopecia story was one of them.  Imagine that!
Abby and Rachel met each other through the double A hand sign campaign that Aby started in 2012, and They've been "connected" since then.  Last year, Facebook Stories featured how these two were able to build a friendship, as well as campaign for disease awareness through Facebook!  And last February 1st, Abby and Rachel had the chance to tour FB headquarters in Menlo Park, San Francisco, meet and chat with the people behind Facebook (Founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg, COO Sheryl Sandberg, CPO Chris Cox, and a whole lot of awesome people), get crazy cool gadgets and have one of the best experiences of their lives.
Abby recounted that it was such a surreal feeling to be in the same room as the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Z was wearing his trademark look (jeans, sneakers, shirt and a big smile on his face), and had such a friendly, approachable aura and demeanor about him.  Not at all intimidating!  He shared stories about how the company started, its mission-vision, the ups and downs that come along, and their future plans.  Those invited also had the chance to ask him questions. When Mark Z was asked about achieving success and life’s “impossibilities”.  He said, “There’s a difference between impossible and things taking a really long time. Even if you’re not going to be able to do something in a short time period, if you care about something, you want to see the world to move into that direction…  So the best thing to do is just get started and not be discouraged." It’s tough because this stuff is hard, or else people would’ve already Abby Asistio got the chance to ask a question to one of the world’s 50 most powerful, successful women in business, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. Aside from Alopecia awareness, Abby is also an active Real Beauty advocate with girls and women struggling with various insecurities, being so consumed by the world’s unrealistic and sometimes superficial standards of beauty.
So Abby asked Sheryl about her perception of it.  Sheryl said that beauty is just like success and that no one could really define it for you.  We are all unique.  We have different stories, dreams and desires. We should explore our own inner and outer beauty, believe and embrace that we are beautiful, and never allow anyone to tell us otherwise.
Mark capped off his talk by sharing their company philosophy with everyone present. Though already having over 1 billion subscribers, there are still 7 billion people all over the world without access to all the meaningful connections and information that Facebook brings.  One thing that the company stands by is that “things are always 1% completed”.  It keeps them grounded, reminding them that there is always so much work, growth and progress to be done, and so many people to reach out to and help.
Everything about the Facebook trip was overwhelming and inspiring according to Abby.  More than anything, it reminded her about “responsibility”.  We are all given our own platforms, in this case “accounts and connections”, to make a dent in this world.  It is up to us to become complacent and take these vehicles for granted, or maximize the opportunities and use them to make a positive impact in this generation.  Abby is grateful that Facebook has become a medium for her to communicate disease awareness and touch people beyond the confines of her tiny room and her country.  Abby is also glad that she and Rachel are two out of millions of people choosing to recognize the importance of social media in contributing to making this world a better place, and actually doing something about it.
Truly, God plans the best adventures and creates the most beautiful surprises.  Abby knows that she wouldn't have been handpicked for this if it weren't for Him, as well as the countless individuals who have cared and showed support for my advocacy.  Abby would like to leave a positive thought to everyone that we should really take the time to search for and identify our “purpose” – that one unique, very specific calling that is the result of our talents, dreams, desires, passions and experiences.  Once you find it, be faithful to it no matter how long or difficult the journey towards its fulfillment may be.  You’ll never know where it could lead to, how far it could go and how large it could grow.  Abby is also thankful that her campaign continues to spread and reach new heights and she is particularly grateful to Facebook for giving her this opportunity and to Novuhair, Nature's Answer to Hair Loss (www.novuhair.com), for always being so supportive of her advocacy and endeavors.  Abby is proud and honored to have represented the Philippines and the Alopecia community in this once-in-a-lifetime, international.

TRIMAC COACHING

Top coach launches triathlon program for all.
One of the country’s top triathlon coaches, Jojo Macalintal, will launch a curriculum for beginner, intermediate and advance triathletes in a bid to complement the country’s campaign to send Filipino triathletes to future Olympic Games.
There will be a three-month program for each category where participants are prepared according to their fitness levels, Macalintal, owner and founder of Trimac Coaching, announced during the launch of the program at Earth Kitchen in Bonifacio Global City on Friday.

The program begins on April 4 at the AS parking lot in at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City.

Popularly known in the triathlon community as Coach Jomac, Macalintal has 18 years of experience in triathlon coaching and competition. Coach Jomac has been in every nook and cranny of the sport as competitor, coach and organizer.
‘‘As local triathlon grows, Trimac would like to extend its knowledge to help provide solid basic skills and hone talents,’’ Macalintal said during the press launch. Macalintal has coached scores of triathletes in all levels and ages -- from beginners to elite and national athletes and from youngsters to seniors.

The program can accommodate affiliated and non-affiliated triathletes who wish to improve. Assisted by a pool of coaches, Macalintal will not only train beginners and turn them into triathletes; he will also train triathletes to be more competitive.

''Anyone can be a triathlete. Kids, students, housewives and mothers, and office workers and even whole families who aim just to be physically fit can swim, bike and run any distance, from sprints and mini-sprints to Olympic and Ironman distances under a good triathlon coach with a good program,'' Macalintal said.

If they wish to, trainees may qualify as members of Team Trimac, one of the oldest and most active triathlon teams in the country.
Macalintal is certified as coach by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and was selected Coach of the Year twice, in 2011 and 2012, by the swimbikerun.ph, the country’s most popular multisport website. His team Trimac was Triathlon Team of the Year in 2011 and his program continues to churn out top-level age-group and elite and youth triathletes.
Also a certified spinning and TRX instructor, Macalintal also turned promising youths into national pool triathletes under the pioneering Trimac Kids program. Currently, he overseas the grassroots Batang Tri program, which trains poor but promising youths under the sponsorship of Seafood Island with the support of other sponsors like Brooks Running.
Trimac Coaching hopes to help a lot of newcomers at the sport with this program. After observing the impressive performances of youngsters in the IronKids part of the recent Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Subic last weekend, Macalintal said it won’t be long before the country’s ever-growing triathlon community will produce a competitor who will compete in the Olympic Games.

QC’S PIONEERING LAW TO STOP STREET HARASSMENT

QUEZON CITY–Three out of five women have experienced a form of sexual harassment while commuting in Metro Manila, according to a new research, “Baseline Study on How safe are women in our city streets” commissioned by Quezon City local government and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (UN Women). And even more alarming is that 1 in 3 of these women experienced the worst forms of sexual harassment such as witnessing male public exposure and masturbation, and rubbing or groping (panghihipo) inside the MRT/ jeepneys.
To put a stop to street harassment and sexual violence against women and girls (SVAWG) in public spaces, the LGU and UN Women held back-to-back eventsto commemorate International Women’s Day (#IWD2016) as well as to kick-off the celebrations in March as the National Women’s Month.

The first was a press conference at the QCX Museum, which saw the launch of the research, also revealed that the Quezon City Local Government just passed amendments to the Gender and Development Code increasing penalties for sexual harassment and sexual violence against women in public spaces to a range of one to five thousand pesos (Php1,000 to Php5,000) for the varying severity of offenses.
Whether due to shame or fear, women traditionally ignore and keep silent about catcalls, wolf-whistling, stalking, repeated harassment for their numbers, even bearing indecent language being yelled at them by men as they walk by.Women experience all these forms of sexual harassment as they move about in the city, using public transport, terminals, markets/malls, and even just walking home in their own neighborhoods.

During the press conference discussing the problem of the frequent street harassment of women, De Castro observed, "We know about it, we are offended by it, but we don't know how to prevent it." The research reported that eighty-eight percent (88%)of women aged 18-24 years, have experienced some form of sexual harassment in their lives, but more than half do not report or do anything about it.
This is why the LGU partnered with UN Women to implement the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Global Initiative. QC is the first city in Metro Manila to be one of over 24 cities around the world in the programme to stop street harassment and sexual violence against women and girls (SVAWG) in public spaces with funding from Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID).
The second event was a grand assembly of 1000 supporters who released sky lanterns to light up the Quezon City skyline and called for safe cities where women are free from fear and free from all forms of street harassment and sexual violence.

It was a visual spectacle where supporters of women’s right to safety in the city banded together to celebrate the spirit of community fighting to stop street harassment of women. Hosted by PTV4’s Good Morning Boss talents, Jules Guiang and Karla Paderna, the event was graced by musical performances from Cooky Chua and Bayang Barrios.
Guiang expressed, “This is such an important issue and we are grateful that for the first timewe have a programme on women’s safety in public spaces and educating everyone that sexual harassment of women in any form is not acceptable.”
