Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri Captures the Easy, Effortless Lifestyle of the New Generation

With the advent of home drinking culture and a demand for convenience, ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails have gained popularity among today's youth.  Tanduay Flavored Mixes in Daiquiri taste are one of the most popular RTDs on the market today.

“Drinking culture is changing, and Millennials and GenZ are driving that change. Their home becomes the new bar, and Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri blends with this new lifestyle. ~Janno Gironella, Jr., Tanduay R&D Head

Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri tastes like fresh, juicy lemonade, with overtones of cherry and almond cake.  It boasts tempting smells of juicy cherry, lemon, and candied almonds.

With a 15% ABV, it provides the perfect amount of refreshing kick.  Gironella stated that, while younger drinkers are more creative with flavors, they are also more conscious of their alcohol consumption.

Tanduay’s Especia Spiced Rum Wins Gold and Best in Category at New Orleans Spirits Competition

The recent New Orleans Spirits Competition recognized Especia Spiced Rum with a gold medal and Best in Category honors. Judged by a group of distinguished specialists, the competition honors premium libations and spirits from world-class producers.

A gold medal signifies that Especia Spiced Rum excelled in several areas, including flavor, balance, aroma, and finish. An heirloom sugarcane product, Especia Spiced Rum is infused with exotic spices and tropical fruits. It has been Tanduay's most awarded product in recent years.

“Tanduay’s victory at the New Orleans Spirits Competition not only showcases our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and quality; it also solidifies the brand’s standing as a leader in the premium spirits industry.” ~Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay International Business Development Manager

In addition to Especia Spiced Rum, several other Tanduay rums received medals.

Tanduay Asian Rum Gold and Tanduay Double Rum each took home bronze medals, but Tanduay Asian Rum Silver took home a silver medal.

Tanduay Asian Rum Silver is another award-winning product. It is aged for up to five years in bourbon barrels and tastes like green, ripe fruits with subtle notes of vanilla, mandarin, and burnt sugar. Its unique and pure flavor makes it ideal for mixing into cocktails or for sipping on its own.

Meanwhile, the highly praised Tanduay Asian Rum Gold is a dark rum with notes of vanilla, tropical fruit, coconut, and nutmeg, and a decent balance of sweetness and alcohol content. It is kept in bourbon barrels for up to seven years.

Tanduay Double Rum, another well-received product, is a mixture of rums aged for 16 and 5 years, mixed for two years in bourbon barrels. Its unique flavor, which is enhanced by the aging process, makes it a smooth-drinking rum with a pleasing balance of flavors throughout.

As the rum brand commemorates its 170th anniversary this year, Tanduay's victory at the New Orleans Spirits Competition represents yet another noteworthy accomplishment.

The Tales of Cocktail Foundation hosts the New Orleans Spirits Competition. Prominent figures in the industry, award-winning distillers and bartenders, celebrated beverage writers, and industry professionals comprise the judging panel.

Tanduay Bacolod Rum Fest Set for August 10-18 With "Ambagan" as Theme

The theme of the fourth Tanduay Bacolod Rum Festival, "Ambagan," honors the various roles that individuals play in fostering a sense of community. This year's event, which runs from August 10 to August 18, promises excitement, art, music, and food for everyone to enjoy.

The feast, which has been held yearly since 2019, began as a tribute to the city's sugarcane, which is the primary source of Tanduay's award-winning rums.

“On this same ground, my father, Lucio K. Tan Jr., together with Councilor Em Ang, announced the inception of the Tanduay Bacolod Rum Festival. The festival was born out of a desire to ensure that Bacolod, the City of Smiles, remains the heart and home of Tanduay. That wherever Tanduay goes, Bacolod will always be a part of its story. What’s remarkable about this collaboration is that we are able to tell the story of Bacolod and Tanduay by highlighting their culinary heritage and the artistic prowess of the Bacolodnon, whether in cocktail-making, painting, music, or dance. That, in essence, is what this Rum Festival is all about.” ~Lucio Tan III, President, LT Group and Tanduay Distillers, Inc.,

Prior to a press conference with the entire house hosted at the Century Park Hotel in Pasay City, Metro Manila. Tan also mentioned Tanduay's excellent cooperation with the local government in organizing the yearly festival.

“On behalf of our City Government led by our beloved Mayor Albee Benitez, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. Together, we have built a celebration that not only honors our heritage but also paves the way for future generations to appreciate and cherish. Supporting initiatives like this festival is crucial in preserving our culture and boosting our local economy.” ~Councilor Em Ang, Chairman of Bacolod City History, Culture, and Arts

Participants are invited to contribute in a variety of ways throughout the festival, including through the visual arts, food, and more. The festival will begin on August 10 with a motorcade to the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), where local dignitaries, including Mayor Albee Benitez, are anticipated to grace the Food Park's ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The Food Park will have mixology, local and international cuisine, and nightly entertainment. The Food Park will remain open through August 18, the festival's final day.

A Mixology Competition is scheduled to occur at the Ayala Malls Capitol Center on August 12. The Culinaria Competition will take place on August 14–15. August 16 is Rum Education Day. The national finals of the Mixology Competition will take place at the Seda Hotel, after a Tanduay Plant Tour and a Rum Masterclass.

On August 17, there will be a street dance competition and a concert at the BCGC in the afternoon, followed by a motorcade parade with some of Bacolod's beauty queens, led by Tanduay Brand Ambassador Derek Ramsay. This year's concert lineup will be headlined by the bands Juan Karlos and Almost.

Women Bartenders on Creating Cocktails With Tanduay, Defying Stereotypes, and Thriving in a Male-Dominated Field

As renewed interest in cocktails continue to grow, bartenders are also taking the spotlight, and in El Nido and Siargao, two bartenders are paving the way for women to shine in a male-dominated industry.

Sharleen Antonio works with her husband and fellow bartending professional, Larry Guevara, in one of Palawan’s top beach destinations. Riza Delguime, meanwhile, is a bartender for a leading resort in the country’s surfing haven.

Creating Tanduay-Infused Cocktails

Both women have been bartending for years and share a preference for Tanduay in creating cocktails.

“It’s very easy to mix in cocktails because of its unique and bold character. I usually go for the classic Tanduay Dark Rum in my root beer and rum with a squeeze of fresh lemon. I have my own signature cocktail, which is perfect when I mix it with Tanduay. We have female guests here in the resort who would request for cocktails that are not too strong, and I would make one for them also using Tanduay. There are different varieties of bars here like sports bars and pool bars, and they are all super busy because of the many tourists who visit our island. It’s very easy to mix in cocktails because of its unique and bold character. I usually go for the classic Tanduay Dark Rum in my root beer and rum with a squeeze of fresh lemon. While I may have experienced some catcalling and received some indecent proposals from male guests in some instances, I have to say that I have been lucky to have always worked with my husband behind the bar. In 2016, we joined Pilipinas Got Talent Season 5 to show that there is more to bartending than meets the eye. That would be the key to your success. Bartending is fun, and you get to entertain guests. Gone are the days when women were simply considered as bar backs or force multipliers during busy bar shifts. Or worse, simply as ornaments behind the bar. It is my wish that female bartenders will continue to flourish and leave their own mark in the field we all so love and are passionate about.~Sharleen Antonio, works with her husband and fellow bartending professional

She shared that they used Tanduay rums in her bar management class back in college, so she is very familiar with the brand. Collaborating with the brand, she came up with three Tanduay-infused cocktails that are perfect for any time of the year -- the Mango Basil Mojito, Tanduay Espresso Martini, and Tanduay Old Fashioned.

Delguime likes Tanduay’s sweet and strong flavor. Foreign customers would usually ask what rum brand she uses in her cocktails and would then request drinks infused with Tanduay rums.

Delguime further shared that the bartending scene in Siargao has always been “good and clean.”

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

Antonio shared working in a male-dominated industry wasn’t easy in the beginning. Women bartenders used to be seen as just “cotton candies” behind the bar to attract male clients and rake in tips.

Advice for Aspiring Bartenders

Delguime advised aspiring bartenders to just be themselves.

Antonio, meanwhile, has made it her advocacy to educate people about bartending as hospitality and F&B professionals.

Antonio wants to motivate, inspire, and empower women bartenders and those who would like to start a career in the bartending industry. She and her husband have been conducting workshops and seminars around the country to help aspiring bartenders better their craft.
