Tan Jr. Charts “Sustainable” Future of LT Group

Lucio K. Tan, Jr., president and chief operating officer, Tanduay Distillers Inc.

Lucio K. Tan Jr. gave a glimpse of the sustainable future that the companies under the Lucio Tan (LT) Group will undertake and emphasized the need to develop clean and renewable energy projects during the company’s recent year-end gathering.

In his customary year-end message, Tan Jr. encouraged his company executives to develop an ability to “go on offensive business mode” to adopt to a changing world advocating technologies that are environmentally-responsible and help ease the impacts of climate change.

“Our thrust is to participate and develop clean and renewable energy projects for our sustainability...reduce our carbon footprint to underscore our commitment to help mitigate the effects of climate change. I believe this is incumbent upon us as a responsible corporate entity, where we can invest in technologies that will unravel economic opportunities for the group and our employees,” said the president and COO of Tanduay Distillers.

Located in a 10-hectare plant, Asian Alcohol Corp. was the second largest distillery in the Philippines. The plant houses alcohol aging and wastewater treatment facilities, which converts distillery waste into biogas energy for its power requirements. It used to have a daily rated capacity of 210, 000 liters of quality ethyl alcohol.
With this development, Tan Jr. said, Asian Alcohol Corp. is expected to be patterned after the success of Absolut Distillers Inc. in Batangas, which has made more than Php880M from its bioethanol operations since 2015.

“Kapitan (Lucio Tan Sr.) made a strategic move to take one step backward in the hope of moving forward, a strategy that teaches us how to realize our future by our sacrifices of today. Next year, Asian Alcohol will begin its biofuel production. Like Absolut Distillers, it will blaze new paths and return to its old glory,” he divulged.

On the other hand, he also revealed, Absolut Distillers has commissioned a six-effect evaporator as part of its continuous improvement and wastewater treatment upgrade. Next year, a pot still distillery will be added to its operation together with a small mill.
Lucio K. Tan, Jr., president and chief operating officer, Tanduay Distillers Inc.

For Tanduay Distillers, according to him, this coming year, the company is expected to sell 20 million cases. Part of the growth plans are Tanduay’s more aggressive operations in pursuing the Luzon market and continued exploration of markets outside the country.

“I cannot wait to find out how we will fare against the best of the best. Tanduay will grow its assets to compete and be even more relevant in the liquor industry,” he said.

He also divulged that one of the companies under the group, Macroasia, will be going into "full blast" next year.

“Macroasia is going full blast with our thrust to address the future of water…our Chairman (Lucio Tan Sr.) has already been building dams to compliment the farmers with their harvest up north. We are now investing more on this valuable liquid,” he added.

Tan Jr. recalled the hardwork and dedication of his father Lucio C. Tan, who is the man behind the success of the companies under the LT Group, but stressed the need to “deliver the future of the Group.”

“I believe that the world opens up to those who know where they are going,” he said, adding that, “So, let us, as one company, stay focused, and get this dream going towards our goals.”

The younger Tan revealed the revival of Asian Alcohol Corp. next year. It can be recalled that the operation of the Bacolod-based facility was temporarily suspended eight years ago.

ITD World empowers CEOs, business leaders to become life, innovation, executive coaches

ITD World president and CEO Dr. Peter Chee talks about how executives should listen with empathy, ask the right questions, and encourage and appreciate people to effectively coach their employees towards achieving sustainable success and holistic happiness.

Top-level leaders, entrepreneurs, and HR, organizational development and training professionals discovered different life coaching, innovation coaching, and executive coaching techniques during the CEO, HR, and Senior Leaders Conference held at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The one-day conference is an ITD Mega Guru event that featured world-renowned executive coach Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, ITD World president and CEO Dr. Peter Chee, and ITD World Philippines country head Serely Alcaraz as they shared insights on how executives can achieve ultimate results and happiness not only in their jobs but also in their personal lives.

Life coaching
The 1st Asian ranked among the top 6 global coaching gurus, Dr. Chee engaged participants on how strategic coaching, executive coaching, and life coaching can be used to achieve sustainable success and holistic happiness. Emphasizing on life coaching as the key to sustainable and holistic love, happiness, and success, the ITD World president and CEO shared six “must do’s” for executives as a life coaching tool: listen fully and deeply, ask the right questions, appreciate and encourage, use positive voice and body language, simplify and focus on what’s important, and move to action and commitment.

Dr. Chee noted there are three important life coaching must do’s that Filipinos can adopt— encourage and appreciate people, ask the right questions, and listen with empathy. “The coach makes the coachee feel like a champion by appreciating and encouraging them, and by asking them the right questions to unleash their power and unlimited potential. Through listening to them with empathy, a coach can really pull out what’s best in them.”

Innovation coaching
Leaders play a crucial role in coaching to achieve breakthrough results in product development and service improvement. For #1 master trainer and ITD World chief coach Alcaraz, this begins with establishing an innovation coaching culture within an organization. This includes crafting an innovation strategy, championing innovation, allocating resources, developing innovation skills, providing management rewards and metrics, cultivating the culture, involving the enterprise, and collaborating with customers and stakeholders.

The second step in innovation coaching is ideation or generating creative ideas that can improve an organization’s product, service, process, or strategy, even in the face of competition. Among the ideation methods presented were mind mapping, wherein Alcaraz challenged executives to not only “think outside of the box” but to completely remove the “box” in coming up with ideas and solutions. Through a short exercise, the attendees were also introduced to Brainwriting, an activity where people in a group take turns in providing new and unique ideas on a key topic.

Alcaraz also talked about SCAMMPERR, a set of innovation techniques that can help executives find new ways to improve their product or service. SCAMMPERR stands for substitute, combine, adapt, magnify, modify, put to another use, eliminate, rearrange, and reverse.

The third step in innovation coaching involves subjecting selected ideas to “throughputs”, a development cycle wherein product ideas undergo research and refinement, rapid prototyping, testing, further research and refinement, solution development, pilot testing, additional research and refinement, and launch. “Throughputs is not so much about being thorough. Aim for quick wins. Don’t take too long about doing this because you still have results evaluation and building customer acceptance which is equally important in introducing a new product or service,” Alcaraz cautioned.

Executive coaching
In his executive coaching session, Dr. Marshall Goldsmith focused on improving or changing a person’s behavior as he talked about the feedforward exercise as a tool for coaching and learning from employees. It encourages leaders, decision makers and people from all levels of the organization to let go of the past and focus on future goals, offer ideas and help as much as they can, and listen to suggestions without judging and learn as much as they can.
World-renowned executive coach, Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, talks about the advantage of the feedforward exercise, as it teaches business leaders and entrepreneurs to focus on future goals and get as much help and learning as they can, especially from their employees.

The best-selling author also outlined guidelines on how everyone in an organization can change their behavior and develop themselves to become good leaders, at work and at home. The guidelines include asking others how one can be a better person, listening to suggestions or advice, thinking things first before doing something, thanking others for their help, responding to suggestions through positive actions, involving support groups to help achieve their goals, changing for the better, and following up on the goals.

Among these, Dr, Goldsmith sees three guidelines that Filipinos can readily adopt—asking, responding, and following up on suggestions. “Filipinos tend to be hesitant to give negative feedback, face-to-face. So, I like confidential feedback and if leaders ask for these, it is very important to teach them how to respond to feedback, to talk about what they want to improve. Then on the follow-up, especially important here is what I call a feedforward, where they ask for ideas which is much more positive.”

The CEO, HR, and Senior Leaders Conference was presented by ITD World, the global leadership development expert, with event partners IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines, Philippine Society for Training & Development, Asia Select Culture Solutions Company, Stratworks Marketing Communications and National Book Store, and exclusive media partner ANC. Philippines paves the way for functional medicine in SEA through the first IFM conference in the region

Functional Medicine is experiencing a rapid development across the globe. In the Philippines, LifeScience Institute (LSI) champions this approach through various initiatives to educate, train and pursue research on Functional Medicine.

LSI collaborated with The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) to bring the first Advancing Functional Medicine (AFM) Conference in Southeast Asia, happening on November 16 and 17, at the Enderun Colleges in Taguig City.

With the theme “Uncovering the Interconnections Between Inflammation, the Gastrointestinal Tract and Toxic Exposure,” it brings together over 300 local and international doctors and other allied health professionals to talk about the underlying causes of complex chronic diseases through the Functional Medicine model.

The conference is the first of its kind in the Southeast Asian region. It will put the spotlight on the whole-body approach of Functional Medicine, which will equip doctors and patients to understand the body in its holistic sense.

This primary care approach looks at the whole body to provide long-term health solutions instead of targeting specific parts for short-term fixes. It determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root cause of the disease and see how the body responds to the environment and lifestyle.

Through the conference, more allies in the medical field will understand the core principles of this health paradigm. It will delve into the mechanisms of diseases to know how to reverse them and will tackle topics such as the often overlooked gut health, intestinal permeability, and the immune and neurologic function and their effects on one’s overall well-being.

IFM’s very own Lisa Portera-Perry, MD, Michael Stone, MD, and Robert Luby, MD, will be conducting the talks throughout AFM.

As the purveyor of Functional Medicine in the Philippines, LSI vows to continue its advocacy in spreading awareness on the significance of this medical approach, with LSC as its partner. Should you wish to know more about Functional Medicine or to sign up for AFM, you may contact LSI at (0917) 829 7075 or visit www.lsi-sea.org and LSC at (0917) 573 5433 and www.lifescience.ph. To sign up for AFM, you may reach LSI through the contact details above.

Going to Barber shop or parlor is a must for everyone to keep our appearance in proper. When you look good, you feel good! and If you feel good, you are confident of yourself. It gives you comfort and happiness when you please someone because of your well-groomed looks.

Nowadays, going to barber shop or parlor takes more time and you are going to face inconvenience because of so many circumstances ahead of you like traffic and sometimes a long queue of waiting for your turn. More time is been wasted which affect our productivity in our daily life.
Good Thing! A new App has been invented to relieve our stress from grooming needs. Introducing SIF from Luggin Digital Ventures Inc. Just like Uber, consumers can easily book the service, enter their location and wait for SIF to deliver the salon to them anytime between 5:00am to 12:00 midnight.
