Tanduay’s Roots is PH’s First Economic History Museum

The country’s first Museum of Philippine Economic History has recently opened in what was once the Ynchausti Commercial House in Calle Real in Iloilo, home of the company that started what will eventually become the world’s number one rhum, Tanduay.
Before the National Historical Commission restored the building into an economic history museum, it was used as the provincial offices of the Commission on Audit. For the longest time, however, it was known as the Elizalde building.

In 1854, according to local historians, the building was home to a conglomerate Ynchausti y Compania (also Ynchausti y Cia), whose founders were the basques José Joaquin Ynchausti, Joaquin Elizalde and Valentin Teus. They consolidated their companies’ assets including Tanduay. When the Elizaldes bought the Ynchausti shares in 1934, they renamed the company to Elizalde Y Cia.
Other than historical data, the museum showcases many of the important artifacts of companies that thrived in Iloilo, especially during the golden days of the sugar industry. Aside from being one of the oldest companies established in the country, the Tanduay Distillery was featured in the museum because of its huge contribution to the sugarcane industry.
There's a display of an old Tanduay dama juana; early advertising print ads of Tanduay; tools from the haciendas of Western Visayas' sugar plantations; looms from the oldest weavers in Miagao, Iloilo; and t'nalak cloth from South Cotabato, among many others.

“Tanduay has a rich history that started in the island of Negros. As we celebrate the 165th year of Tanduay Distillers this year, we would like to ensure that Tanduay will always be remembered, especially by the next of generations of Filipinos. The Tanduay Museum will be housed at our old office in Quiapo, where Ynchausti Y Cia operated their liquor facility. We plan to restore part of the original building, but since it will be a brand museum, expect that it will have a modern façade and will utilize technology at par with the world’s contemporary museums.” ~Lucio K. Tan, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer, Tanduay Distillers, Inc.

Incidentally, as part of its anniversary celebration, the Lucio Tan Group-owned Tanduay Distillers, Inc has embarked on the conversion of its distillery in Manila into a museum that will showcase its rich and colorful history. It will likewise give its visitors a multi-sensory experience on how its products are made.
It is appropriate that these items are housed at the Ynchausti Commercial House, which was built in 1905 and used as a trading store. Like most Spanish colonial houses in the country, it is the typical bahay-na-bato with solid red-brick walls on the first floor and wood panels on the second floor. It also has wide Capiz-shell windows that are a distinct design of old Spanish houses.

Starting February 27, 2019 Filipinos can now enjoy the same mouth-watering products that were also made available in McDonald’s restaurants across the world. You no longer have to fly out to experience this dream destination

Flavors of Japan offerings include the new Ebi Burger (with actual shrimp!), Teriyaki Samurai Burger, Nori Shake Shake Fries, and Strawberry Sakura McFloat.

Can’t wait to try it all? The Sakura Meal is ready for you! It is comprised of a choice of any of the two Flavors of Japan burgers, Nori Shake Shake Fries and Strawberry Sakura McFloat for a complete Japanese experience.

People enjoying so much in the event and having fun tasting this new variant of Mcdonald's meal. Take a sumptuous bite out of the new Ebi Burger that has a tempura coated shrimp patty topped with sweet sauce and lettuce, all sandwiched between a black and white sesame seed bun. Another new burger you can look forward to is the Teriyaki Samurai Burger which has a beef patty dipped in a teriyaki glaze, topped with mayo and lettuce, all in between a sesame seed bun. You can pair any of these burgers with the new Nori Shake Shake Fries, a sweet and salty, seaweed-flavored take on McDonald’s World Famous Fries.

Lucky participants of the event won this Mcdonald's luggage. The Sakura season will also be in full bloom at McDonald’s with Sakura window displays where you can dine and take photos with.  You can also enjoy the timeless yet fun art of origami with friends and family with special origami traymats that you can turn into paper cranes while listening to the Japanese inspired ambient music playing inside the store throughout the afternoon. To complete your Japanese experience, select McDonald’s branches nationwide will also get a Japanese-inspired makeover. You’ll feel like you stepped into a Japanese restaurant as our crew greets you with a warm Konnichiwa, dressed in their Japanese-inspired vests.

Out of the four variants, I like the Sakura Float and Ebi burger the most.

Complete your Flavors of Japan experience by trying out the Strawberry Sakura McFloat, sweet strawberry and cherry taste topped with a creamy vanilla sundae. The new Flavors of Japan products are available for dine-in, take-out, DriveThru and McDelivery. Looking ahead, we envision the Galaxy S10 as the pioneering device that will catapult Samsung toward another decade of groundbreaking smartphone technology.” “The Samsung Galaxy S10 builds on the incredible legacy of the Galaxy S series, which has delivered the best mobile experiences to consumers in the past decade,” says James Jung, President of Samsung Philippines.

Maximized Infinity-O Display: the future of viewing
Sporting minimized bezels, a wider 19:9 screen-body ratio, and a punch-hole display for the front camera, the Galaxy S10 maximizes the screen real estate without any distractions. The Infinity-O Display comes in three variants: a 5.8-inch display for the Galaxy S10e, a 6.1-inch display for the Galaxy S10, and a 6.4-inch display for the Galaxy S10+.

The Galaxy S10 also has the world’s first Dynamic AMOLED Display, delivering amazing visibility and vivid visuals under any lighting condition. As the first HDR 10+ certified device with Dynamic Tone Mapping, the Galaxy S10 generates a wider and more accurate range of colors, even in the darkest of scenes. The screen remains pleasing to the eyes, as the smartphone already reduces blue light emissions by 41% even before activating the Blue Light Filter.
Mr. Benson Galguerra, Product Marketing Head for IT & Mobile tells more about what consumers can expect with this new powerful smartphone.

Perfectly capture any moment with the True Vision Multi-Camera
The Galaxy S10’s True Vision Multi-Camera combines a full array of lenses in one powerful device. The Galaxy S10e has a dual camera set-up, utilizing a 12 MP Wide Dual Aperture Lens and a 16MP Ultra-Wide Lens -- a first for the S series. The Galaxy S10+ and the S10 sport three rear cameras, adding the 12 MP Telephoto lens for zoom.
The triple camera set-up of the Galaxy S10 & S10+ lets users easily switch shooting modes, from telephoto (2x optical zoom), to Wide (77°) and Ultra-Wide (123°), perfect for capturing detailed close-up portraits and epic panorama shots. Both the S10e and S10 carry a 10 MP Dual Pixel UHD Selfie front camera, while the Galaxy S10+ adds another 8 MP Camera for artistic Live Focus selfies and UHD videos. Powered by upgraded AI, the Galaxy S10 automatically adjusts its settings based on the scenes being captured, and can even suggest composition recommendations to frame the shot beautifully.

The Galaxy S10 also functions as a Pro Camcorder, offering Super Steady & High-Quality Video Recording. This allows users to take dynamic action videos with minimal shakiness. Both front and rear cameras can shoot in up-to UHD quality, and in an industry first, the rear camera provides the flexibility to record in HDR10+.

Making the most out of the Galaxy S10 with Intelligent Performance
Ensuring maximum phone security, the Galaxy S10 & Galaxy S10+ use the first-ever embedded Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner  that reads the 3D contours of a physical thumbprint – not a 2D image of it – for improved anti-spoofing. The feature detects every unique nuance of a fingerprint, even with changes in humidity, sunlight, or ambient temperature, offering vault-like security to keep the device safe.

Operating faster than ever, the Galaxy S10 delivers efficient and seamless user experience with an 8nm mobile chipset. Engineered for the best possible performance, the flagship phone’s hardware increases CPU & GPU performance while reducing power consumption. This allows the device to launch frequently used applications and games smoothly.

The Galaxy S10 also offers the largest storage capacity available on a Galaxy device, with 1TB of built-in storage expandable up to 1.5TB on the limited-edition Galaxy S10+ variant. The base models of the Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 carry 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the Galaxy S10e supports 6GB RAM and internal memory of 128GB.

Built to adjust to its users’ needs, the Galaxy S10 automatically optimizes battery, CPU, RAM, and even device temperature based on how the smartphone is used. It also sports a wider battery capacity than the previous Galaxy variants: 4,100 mAh for the Galaxy S10+, 3,400 mAh for the Galaxy S10, and 3,100 mAh for the Galaxy S10e.

Next Generation Wireless PowerShare for more possibilities
Samsung also introduces the Wireless PowerShare feature on the Galaxy S10, allowing the charging of Qi-certified smartphones by simply placing them against the flagship smartphone.  As an industry-first, the Galaxy S10’s Wireless PowerShares will also charge compatible wearables, such as the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds. This allows on-the-go users to avoid the hassle of looking for sockets to charge their devices.

In addition, the Galaxy S10 is capable of charging itself and a second device simultaneously via Wireless PowerShare, while connected to just one regular charger. One can save time by powering up multiple gadgets in one go, allowing users to tackle their day with fully-charged devices.

Glenmark Philippines Inc. Hosted the First Aid Training on Wound Care Management

Glenmark Philippines, Inc., an affiliate of a leading research-based pharmaceutical company Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, conduct a “First Aid for Kids Training” through its brand on wound care, Foskina Ointment. Held at SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Taguig City, February 24, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

It's an afternoon of fun and learning to know the basic training that is vital for saving lives especially for my family. I almost forgot how to do the CPR, good thing I got to attend this event and refresh my mind how to do it again properly with the step by step procedure. In addition to CPR training, Choking and First Aid training for a wound are additional learnings I discover with this event.

Dr. Daniel Luchangco MD begin the training for basic application of CPR. He demonstrates the proper and step by step procedure when conducting CPR in times of emergency. We got the chance also to ask some few questions to clarify our inquiries and doubts.

Parents and Child attendees experience how to execute the proper CPR by doing it on the dummy human and babies.

Kids in this age range are usually prone to cuts, scrapes, and burns, acquired either at home, school or other areas like malls, parks, and playgrounds where they are most physically active. Thus, it is of utmost importance that parents and school facilitators are knowledgeable when it comes to applying first aid as the “first responders” on proper wound care management and in other cases of emergencies.

Among the highlights of the training, cover wound care and burn management, allergies and bites, and CPR and choking.  The lectures and hands-on demos will be led by the team behind Early Intervention Management, Dr. Dan Luchangco from the Emergency Department of the Makati Medical Center and Dr. Joy Sto. Domingo, Chairman of the VRP Emergency Medicine Consultants.

Glenmark aims to increase awareness about the value of knowing the application of basic first aid, particularly among parents and school facilitators of pre-school and kindergarteners.

Media partners for the event include Manila Bulletin (Digital), Channel Hue, Experience Travel and Living magazine and Moms & Kids Magazine.

For cuts and scrapes, fix it with Foskina! For more information about Foskina Ointment, visit www.firstaidforkids.ph , or follow them at Instagram (firstaidforkidsph) or www.facebook.com/firstaidforkidsph

17th Happy Walk for Down Syndrome in cooperation with SM and DSAPI

Happy Walk was held in celebration of the National Syndrome Consciousness Month and is an annual activity that promotes awareness, acceptance and inclusivity of persons with Down Syndrome into society. Happy Walk was organized by the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI), in partnership with SM Cares.

The Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization, founded in 1991 by a group of dedicated and committed parents and concerned physicians. It aims to offer support to families who have a child with Down Syndrome and to initiate, develop, promote, encourage and support programs and projects concerning Down Syndrome.

An estimated 6,000 attendees comprised of families, schools, supporters, advocates, and SM employees, celebrated the triumphant life stories of people with Down Syndrome and their families at the 17th Happy Walk for Down Syndrome, which took place at the SMX Convention Center, Manila last February 24, 2019.

A parade around the SM Mall of Asia complex followed after the program allowing children with Down Syndrome, together with their families, to interact with the shoppers and tenants of the mall.

The event featured performances from children affected with the condition, celebrity performances, and fun interactive booths.

“Having a child with Down Syndrome has been one of the most remarkable experiences for me, as well as for countless parents and families. Some experiences can be so powerful that they have long-lasting and life-changing impacts on our lives.” DSAPI Chairman Mr. Elmer F. Lapeña shares

“The Happy Walk is certainly one of the biggest events that continues to make beautiful stories for families to enjoy, to have fun, to be with one another, to treasure.” DSAPI Chairman Mr. Elmer F. Lapeña adds.

“At SM, we recognize the ever-changing needs of the members of the community where we are present, and the more we celebrate our relationship with groups like DSAPI, the more that we understand what needs to be developed in making a welcoming mall, including persons with disability.” said Bien Mateo, SVP of SM Supermalls and Director for SM Cares Program on PWDs.

The event was graced by Hans Sy, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SM Prime Holdings together with US Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Sung Kim and Ambassador designate for the Royal Thai Embassy, H.E. Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng, who have both long supported the advocacies of SM and DSAPI.

Simultaneously, SM City Bacolod also joined the celebration and had their walk as well.

SM Cares is the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of SM Prime Holdings, Inc. Its advocacies include Programs on Persons with Disabilities, Children and Youth, Women and Breastfeeding Mothers, Environment Sustainability, Senior Citizens, and Overseas Filipino Workers (SM Global Pinoy).

A whole day of family fun, bonding, and entertainment has enjoyed by the families, relatives, and friends of people with down syndrome. SM has prepared some activities they can enjoy in a day.
It's an unexplainable feeling of happiness every time I saw people with down syndrome expressing their smiles and how great they are despite their conditions. I salute the family and relatives taking care of them. God Bless you all people with a kind heart.

As a responsible integrated property developer, SM ensures that its CSR programs serve as a catalyst for positive change in the communities that it supports. To know more about SM Cares, you may visit www.smcares.com.ph, www.facebook.com/OfficialSMCares or email smcares@smsupermalls.com.
