Saint John Bosco Students rise to the challenge with Caltex Havoline and ONE Championship

Saint John Bosco Students got the chance to meet the Champions of UFC and me also who cover the event. I'm glad I am chosen to blog more about this campaign.

Manila Philippines, November 29, 2016 - The youth of the St. John Bosco Parish got in a lifetime chance to train with ONE Championship athletes through a community initiative spearheaded by Caltex Havoline Caltex Havoline brand ambassador Mark Striegl along with ONE Championship title holders Brandon Vera and Eduard Folayang trained with the children of the parish with the aim to empower them through physical fitness activities and inspire them to face life's toughest challenges with endurance and genuine strength.

The St. John Bosco Parish youth are particularly close to our hearts.

For many years, they have helped them make a sustainable living through livelihood projects such as the Pugad Pandesal: Manna From Heaven, the Coffee & Saints Café, and the Caltex Mobile Mechanics.

Just as Caltex Havoline puts the fight back in your engine, they want to empower the youth to fight for their dreams," said Joseph  Bronfman, Area Business Manager, Philippines & Vietnam, Chevron Philippines Inc. Though the athletes are in the thick of training for the upcoming ONE: Age of Domination on December 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena, they took time off to bond with the kids of St. John Bosco Parish and teach them a few of their moves in the cage As Striegl introduced the exercises, he also encouraged the youth to fight hard for their dreams These kids have difficult situations at a young age.

I readily agreed to join this activity because I wanted to help empower them," said Striegl" Don Bosco PUGAD (Parish Urchins Gathered at Don Bosco) center serves the underprivileged youth who are incapable of supporting their own education. Chevron and the parish are long time partners, previously organizing livelihood projects and training programs together to equip them in making a sustainable living. After the training exercises, the three fighters spent some time designing tambourines with the youth of PUGAD Center, which will be auctioned at ONE: Age of Domination event on December 2, 2016.

The passion that drives us towards excellence is the same passion that inspires us to commit to giving the best to our partners, customers, and communities. Not having access to education is one of the most challenging obstacles, but they continually overcome it.

"In Chevron, we value people."

Caltex Havoline is ONE Championship's Southeast Asia regional partner for Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

The new season takes the series to the next level as the most qualified group of hardcore survivalists face new challenges unlike those seen in the past seasons as they put to the test their capability and ingenuity to survive in a remote South American region with one mission - to stay alive. Equipped only with limited gear, their wilderness experience, and cameras to self-document their journeys, these brave and self-confident 7 men and 3 women are completely separated from one another. To survive, they must hunt for food, find water, build shelters, and fend off deadlier predators, from wild boars to vicious rodents, while experiencing unpredictable weather conditions in a new and remote location.

Brandon Vera returns to ONE Cage to defend heavyweight title

ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera (14-7-0, 1NC) of San Diego, California is set to make his much-anticipated return to the ONE Championship cage next Friday, 2 December at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. The Filipino-American fighter is set to defend his title belt against undefeated Japanese challenger Hideki Sekine (7-0) in the main event of ONE: AGE OF DOMINATION.

The matchup headlines a stacked fight card featuring a posse of local homegrown Filipino mixed martial artists. Seeing action are Team Lakay standouts Geje Eustaquio, Honorio Banario, April Osenio and Danny Kingad. Also to see cage time are Eugene Toquero, Mark Striegl, and Filipino-Australian Reece McLaren.

Vera, 39, takes pride in leading the charge for team Philippines who are ready to put on a show in Manila.

“The Philippines is just as much my home as the United States is, and I am truly blessed to be able to compete here in front of all the Filipino fans,” said Vera. “It’s an amazing country and we discover something new everyday. It’s an honor to be able to headline massive ONE Championship fight cards.”

Vera was last seen in the cage nearly a year ago, when he captured the ONE Heavyweight World Championship with a first round knockout victory over Taiwanese-Canadian fighter Paul “Typhoon” Cheng.

His opponent, the 265-pound Sekine is a new ONE Championship talent acquisition. He is currently unbeaten as a professional mixed martial artist. Six of his seven victories have come by finish, including three by submission and three by knockout.

With both fighters having a knack for exciting finishes, the bout is expected to not go the distance. Vera, who joined ONE Championship in 2014, is a winner of two straight with both wins coming by first round knockout.

Vera, who has been a mixed martial artist for the greater part of the last two decades, feels he is at the highest point of his career now.

“My mixed martial arts career has had its up and downs, highs and lows. But I feel that right now, I’m the best that I have ever been. I’m in my prime and I feel great,” said Vera. “The honor and prestige of being a world champion is something that I take very seriously. I am proud to wear the ONE Heavyweight World Championship belt around my waist.”

Vera promises fans who will come down to the MOA Arena next week that he will be at peak condition. Expect only the best performance said the Filipino-American.

“Training has been phenomenal. I train with the best fighters in the world at Alliance MMA and with some really top guys in the Philippines as well. I am always in shape and ready to go,” said Vera.
“I can’t wait to be inside that ONE Championship cage again. The big fight atmosphere in Manila is amazing. Filipino fight fans are a passionate bunch.”

Couple Getaway Surprise Destination Idea for your Sweetheart

I used to be an OFW who works at a Mall in Yanbu, Saudie Arabia for more than 10 years, until I decided to finally end my contract and go home to my family and love one here in the Philippines.
I remember whenever I go home for a vacation for just a month and sometimes it doesn't event reach a month, Me and my Sweetheart don't have a chance to go out of the busy city we just go to nearby malls to eat out, watch movies and visit friends from college.

I had always wanted to take her somewhere I knew she loved to go to. Just last March of this year I had my vacation before I finally decided to exit from Yanbu, she keeps on telling me how she loves and wanted to go to the beach or anywhere where nature can be such a relaxing place. Even though I badly wanted to take her away for a while time is really our enemy during those times.

But now we have more time, more planning to do, more chances to be together. And since we are both travel bloggers. I would want to take her to different beautiful beach or resorts destinations that would really surprise her and make her happy.

I got listed down some of my ideal beautiful beach in the Philippines that I had asked to my friends about and I bet they had shared so much that I am so excited to share it as well to you guys specially men out there who wanted to take their ladies as well in the beach.

Listed are some of the Beach/Resorts ideas:

NOVUHAIR HEAD BAGS AGORA AWARD

President and CEO Wins in the Individual Category of the 37 th Agora Awards

Ms. Velilla

Quezon City, Philippines – Nutramedica, Inc. President and CEO Sheila Mae Velilla bagged the Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship – Medium Scale at the recently concluded 37th Agora Awards. Nutramedica is a homegrown 100% wholly-owned Filipino enterprise that  manufactures and distributes Novuhair, an acclaimed line of products that addresses hair loss.

Held last October 26 at PICC, CCP Complex, the Agora Awards recognizes individuals and organizations for exceptional marketing skills and strategies. It is touted to be the premier marketing awards body in the country and sets the high standards of excellence in the industry.

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO BIG WINNER

Moving in an industry dominated by giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, Nutramedica’s tenacious rise from its humble beginnings as a microenterprise is one for the books. Thanks largely to its creativity and innovation, it has become a major player with a well-established niche in the industry.

Founded in 2004 by Velilla, Nutramedica develops beauty and healthcare products out of natural and mostly indigenous ingredients. It is one of the pioneers in the commercialization of virgin coconut oil (VCO) and gained wide success with its slogan “healthiest oil on earth,” which led to its acquisition by a big company.

It continued to create more VCO-based skin care products and hit the jackpot with its latest, and now banner, product – Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss. This breakthrough solution is made of 19 herbal ingredients and comes in topical scalp lotion, herbal shampoo, and herbal conditioner that effectively battles the effects of hair loss and helps enhance and restore one’s crowning glory.

Launched in 2009, Novuhair enjoys tremendous success until today. It is widely accepted not only here in the Philippines, but also in other countries. It is set to enter the international market, starting with the United States (US), in December of this year. Such bold, yet timely, move of the company to export Novuhair to the US and eventually the Middle East also opens the opportunity for proudly-made local products to penetrate the global arena.

Novuhair’s popularity and market leadership may be attributed to the company’s initial market study coupled with the right timing, as well as smart use of resources by coming up with an effective tri-media campaign best described as low-budget yet high-impact marketing.

Leveraging on its organic growth from a microenterprise to medium scale with over 30 employees in a span of 12 years, Nutramedica continues to further develop, market and distribute high-quality goods that could bring honor to the country.

The firm raises the bar in entrepreneurship with its faithful adherence to best business practices, such as provision of high quality products and excellent services, adaptability to market trends, constant innovation, diversification of trade, and giving back to society.

“Great things in business are never done by one person, they are done by a team of people”, Velilla quotes Steve Jobs when asked what’s her secret to success in this competitive business of beauty and healthcare.

“We at Nutramedica also adhere to our core values of integrity, trust, fairness, discipline, humility, leadership, teamwork and faith in God. That’s our winning formula,” Velilla further adds.

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion, Shampoo and Conditioner are available in all Mercury Drug Stores and other leading drug stores nationwide. For more information visit www.novuhair.com, like the brand’s official Facebook Page at Novuhair Official, follow it on Twitter at @NovuhairNatural and on Instagram @novuhairofficial. PALSCON HOLDS 6TH NATIONAL FORUM

Philippine Association of Legitimate Service Contractors (PALSCON)

PALSCON holds 6th National Forum

Forum to tackle vital labor issues such as “ENDO,” “5-5-5”

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES, 14 November 2016 - The Philippine Association of Legitimate Service Contractors (PALSCON) today holds its annual 6th National Forum with the hope of helping clear the air with regard to vital labor issues like “ENDO” or “End of Contract” and “5-5-5.”

These are among the hottest topics in today’s very important forum, especially in light of strong calls by the government and the general public to once and for all put an end to these unfair labor practices.

Through the forum, PALSCON, the premier association of legitimate service contractors in the country, is putting itself at the forefront of helping come up with winnable solutions against “ENDO” and “5-5-5” together with other concerned groups and stakeholders. In the past, PALSCON already collaborated with labor and employers’ groups and the national government, in particular the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), to hopefully put an end to these illegal employment practices.

“The situation now is very challenging especially to the legitimate service contractors who have become seriously affected with the allegations that our industry is propagating these practices, which is absolutely not true,” declares Arturo “Butch” Guerrero III, Chairman of the PALSCON 6th National Forum and PALSCON’s 2014 and 2015 National President.

Among the other topics to be tackled during the forum include Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez and the “win-win” scenario proposed by the government, and the service contracting industry’s importance as presented by Atty. Josephus Jimenez, Past President of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) for 2015 and current PMAP President Jesse Rebustillo.

The issue of ongoing labor inspections on labor-only contracting by Bureau of Labor Relations Director Benjo Benavidez will also be tackled while the DOLE will also inform attendees of the rules of inspection so PALSCON members will be properly guided during inspections and comply with labor laws. The stand of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) will also be made known and announced by ECOP President Donald Dee and PCCI President George Barcelon, respectively.

As for the international scenario, the International Labor Organization (ILO) will show that service contracting is a practice well received in other countries and that the Philippines needs it to be globally competitive in the ASEAN market and in the global supply chain, according to Guerrero.

For its part, the World Employment Confederation (formerly International Confederation of Private Employment Agencies or CIETT), of which PALSCON is a member, will present valuable research data which it hopes will advance the cause of service contracting in the Philippines.

Since the forum’s theme is about Tripartism, the trade unions, represented by the President of the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), Atty. Sonny Matula and Past President Atty. Allan Montano will be on hand to air the side of the workers.

And as hailed during its last General Membership Meeting, PALSCON will present its manifesto, which was supported by the ECOP, the PCCI, the Makati Business Club (MBC) and the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation, Inc. or SEIPI in order to show the strength and unity among the largest employer groups in the country.

Guerrero again reiterated the importance of the forum. “This is a very timely and important event for PALSCON because not only is it an opportunity for all service contractors to gather in one place, it is also where we can show strength in unity in light of the issues, that we are the light of the industry and show how we can advance our cause. We hope that through this forum we can enlighten the government and show them and the general public how PALSCON can help clean the air of these issues and assure them of PALSCON members’ full and total compliance to existing labor laws.”
