BPI, BPI MS roll out Kaya Care to support Filipinos facing major health risks

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and BPI/MS Insurance Corporation (BPI MS) have created BPI Kaya Care Critical Illness Insurance, a simple, accessible, and cost-effective plan designed to help Filipinos protect themselves and their loved ones from today's most catastrophic health threats.

BPI Kaya Care was established to solve a growing health crisis: the rising number of Filipinos diagnosed with serious illnesses.  According to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, ischemic heart disease, cancer, and cerebrovascular illnesses such as stroke would be the top three causes of death in 2023.

To assist Filipinos plan for these risks, BPI Kaya Care provides a lump-sum cash benefit upon the diagnosis of any of the following serious illnesses: cancer, heart attack, or stroke.  Clients diagnosed at an early stage receive 50% of the benefit, while those diagnosed at a later stage or with a serious diagnosis receive the entire amount.

This cash benefit, which can be received as long as the insured survives seven days following diagnosis, allows policyholders to begin treatment quickly and retain financial security at a difficult time.  While the benefit is primarily meant for medical interventions, families may use it for therapy, medication, or everyday living expenditures, whatever is most important to them.

“At BPI, our purpose is clear: to Build a Better Philippines, one family, one community at a time. For too long, critical illness insurance has felt complex and out of reach. We wanted to change that. BPI Kaya Care is more than a policy—it’s a partner that helps families focus on recovery without financial strain, support that truly matters when it matters most.” ~Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go, Consumer Banking Head of BPI

Unlike treatment-specific government programs, BPI Kaya Care covers an important gap: many Filipinos postpone treatment after being diagnosed because they lack time to secure funding.  Kaya Care offers urgent cash assistance, removing this barrier so that patients and families may focus on timely treatment and improved health results.

Premiums for this protection start at ₱859 per year, depending on the client's age and chosen plan, making it affordable for many Filipino households.  Enrollment has also been made easy and convenient.

Customers can obtain the product online at kayacare.bpims.com or by visiting any BPI branch or the local BPI MS office.  The claims process is both easy and supportive, demonstrating the product's commitment to accessibility.

“The silent crisis of underinsurance, coupled with surging medical costs, creates an urgent need for simple, accessible insurance solutions. BPI MS is proud to collaborate with BPI to bring BPI Kaya Care to life. By delivering this vital and affordable protection to the core and middle markets, we are helping more Filipino families secure their future and take control of their health without compromising their financial stability.” ~Noriyuki Kobayashi, President and CEO of BPI MS

The introduction of BPI Kaya Care represents BPI's larger commitment to boosting Filipino families and strengthening national resilience.  As the government continues to invest in strengthening healthcare infrastructure, including considerable financing for specialist hospitals, BPI Kaya Care guarantees that Filipino families have not only access to these facilities, but also the financial means to pay for necessary treatments.

Tanduay enters an ‘Iconic Era’ with Andrea Brillantes as 2026 Calendar Girl

Tanduay, the world's number one rum, introduced Andrea Brillantes as its 2026 Tanduay Calendar Girl at a glamorous media event hosted at The Elements at Eton Centris, honoring not only a new face, but also a revitalized spirit of confidence, authenticity, and empowerment.

For decades, the Tanduay Calendar Girl has been an annual highlight in local pop culture, noted for combining glamor, artistry, and empowerment.  Every calendar contains mirrored the changing image of the Filipina as confident, self-assured, and multifaceted.

The 2026 edition, themed "Iconic Era," upholds the tradition while reimagining it for a new generation.  Instead than emphasizing allure, this year's campaign highlights uniqueness and honesty, attributes that both the brand and its newest muse possess.

“When I found out, I was honestly shocked. Like, ha? talaga ba? Growing up, I’d always see the Tanduay Calendar Girls as these strong, confident, iconic women, so to actually be one now feels surreal. It’s such an honor and definitely a huge milestone for me. It really took a lot of preparation, both mentally and physically. I had to be disciplined with my meal plans and make sure I felt good inside and out. I also studied each concept with the team because I wanted every photo to show a different side of me. Being a Tanduay Calendar Girl is about being real and confident. You have to embrace who you are, including your flaws, strengths, everything. Whether I’m soft, strong, playful, or fierce. That’s all me, and I’m proud of that. People have watched me grow up, and now they’re seeing me as a woman. “I’m more sure of myself, more intentional with the things I do, and more confident to take control of my career. Hindi na siya about proving anything. It’s about enjoying where I am and celebrating how far I’ve come. I’ve made mistakes, learned from them, and now I know myself better. Mas marunong na akong pumili. Whether it’s people, projects, or where I put my energy. I’ve learned to protect my peace, trust my gut, and stand by my choices. I feel stronger and more grounded now. Perhaps, people feel that energy because I try to stay authentic. I grow, I learn, I change, but I stay true to myself. I leave it up to them to see me as I am. ~Andrea Brillantes, Tanduay Calendar Girl 2026

The Making of an Icon

Brillantes admitted that becoming a Tanduay Calendar Girl required more than physical preparation.

Every layout in the 2026 calendar conveys a story about progress, strength, and transformation.  The images, which range from gentle and introspective pictures to flamboyant, fashion-forward imagery, are intended to depict Andrea's progress as well as the brand's theme of confidence through self-awareness.

Andrea Brillantes is now stepping into her career with a renewed sense of maturity. Her new role as Tanduay's ambassador appears to reflect the brand's own transformation from a long-standing local distillery to a globally acclaimed name that continues to innovate while remaining faithful to its roots.

For Andrea, entering her Iconic Era entails remaining loyal to her core.  Tanduay sees this new chapter as a continuation of its commitment to recognize not only beauty, but also strength and originality, principles that have guided the brand for over 170 years.

As the night came to a conclusion and images from the Iconic Era calendar appeared on the screen, the message was clear: Tanduay and Andrea Brillantes are both committed to change, progress, and authenticity.

The ceremony, which took place amid a day of creative shoots and passionate speeches, was more than just a contract signing; it also highlighted the convergence of visionaries who are reinventing how the modern Filipina epitomizes confidence, grace and authenticity.

ZOLEA Fitness: Where “Soft is Strong”

At the center of the event was ZOLEA Fitness, a premium Pilates equipment brand that promotes the empowering philosophy of Soft is Strong.  ZOLEA, led by co-founder and CEO Mary Cruz, promotes mindful movement and inner power via functional training and beautiful movements.

Ms. Cruz underlined in her message that ZOLEA is more than just physical training; it is about rediscovering power through softness and purpose through balance.

“We want to remind women that wellness is not about perfection, but presence. Softness is not weakness — it is power refined.” ~Ms. Mary Cruz, ZOLEA Co-Founder & CEO

Through this collaboration, the 33 Mutya ng Pilipinas 2025 candidates will not only serve as brand ambassadors but also embody ZOLEA’s vision: strength in movement, confidence in self-care, and beauty through balance.

Anna Magkawas Unveils Her New Brand: ANNA-E Skincare

The event also marked the much-anticipated launch of ANNA-E Skincare, the newest beauty line under Ms. Anna Magkawas, founder and CEO of the Luxe Beauty & Wellness Group.

In her message, Magkawas spoke passionately about authentic beauty that starts with self-love.

“ANNA-E is more than a brand—it’s a reflection of every woman who chooses to nurture her natural glow while staying true to who she is.” ~Ms. Anna Magkawas, founder and CEO of the Luxe Beauty & Wellness Group

Mutya ng Pilipinas, led by President & National Director Cory Quirino, continues to empower women who represent not only beauty but also purpose and discipline.

This collaboration—which brings together the worlds of pageantry, fitness, and skincare—reflects shared values: the confidence that comes from strength, the glow that comes from self-care, and the grace that shines through honesty.

During the signing ceremony, attended by Ms. Cruz, Ms. Magkawas, and Ms. Quirino, the three organizations celebrated their unified mission to create a platform where women inspire women—to move, glow, and lead with heart.

As the event closed, the message was clear: this relationship is about more than simply brands; it is about creating a movement.  One that recognizes the modern Filipina's journey of strength, gentleness, and self-love.

Back to Where It All Began: McDonald’s Celebrates 44 Years in the Philippines at Its First Store in Morayta

McDonald's Philippines is commemorating 44 years in the Philippines by placing a memorial marker at its historic first location on Morayta Street in Manila.

Last October 28, McDonald's Philippines President and CEO Kenneth S. Yang, along with Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, oversaw the ceremonial unveiling of the memorial honoring McDonald's Philippines Chairman and Founder Dr. George T. Yang.

Yang, Ronald McDonald, and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso at the unveiling of the commemorative marker at McDonald’s Morayta, the first McDonald’s store in the country.

McDonald's Morayta, located in the center of the country's University Belt, is a favorite with students, families, employees, and friends. The marker commemorates this historic business, which has hosted innumerable happy memories for generations of Filipinos.

As part of its ongoing commitment to giving back to the community it has served for more than four decades, McDonald's also hosted an exciting and heartwarming McDo Party for over 40 children from the Manila Child Development Center, allowing the brand to celebrate this milestone with the local community.

McDonald’s Morayta in 1981

McDonald’s Morayta today

The Morayta store opened in 1981, soon after Dr. Yang was granted the exclusive franchise to operate McDonald’s in the Philippines.

“When I brought McDonald’s to the Philippines, I initially envisioned opening 10 branches. Forty-four years later, the Philippines now ranks as one of the top 10 McDonald’s markets in the world, and we have more than 800 stores across the country. This is why I consider it important to shine a spotlight on McDonald’s Morayta, where it all began. It is also our reminder to stay focused on our customers, so that each moment they spend in our stores will create lasting memories for years to come. McDonald’s Morayta also saw our very first batch of working students, many of whom were driven to gain substantial work experience while also pursuing their studies. Our commitment to supporting working students remains true today. I’m happy to say that 70 percent of our workforce are working students. ~Dr. George T. Yang, McDonald's Philippines Chairman and Founder

Many significant milestones followed, including the 2005 acquisition of McDonald's Philippines by 100% Filipino owners.  Earlier this year, Dr. Yang received a new 20-year license to operate McDonald's in the country, signaling a strong vote of confidence in Dr. Yang and Kenneth Yang's leadership and governance.  The new-term license also came at a period of rapid expansion, with the firm opening and operating outlets in nearly every province in the country, bringing the McDonald's experience to every Filipino.

A closer look at the McDonald’s Morayta commemorative marker

“We continue to build on the exceptional McDonald’s experience that our customers have grown up with and continue to love. Because our operations are guided by our strong values and our passion for excellence, we are confident that our customers can enjoy the same great-tasting and high-quality food, and the same top-notch customer service in any of our 800-plus stores nationwide.” ~Kenneth Yang, McDonald’s Philippines President and CEO

McDonald's Philippines is the only quick service restaurant (QSR) that uses direct hiring, and the company continues to spend extensively in direct local employment and talent development.  Since 1981, McDonald's has embraced non-contractualization, ensuring job security and growth opportunities for its approximately 70,000 employees.  Each McDonald's employee, regardless of age, background, or gender, has the chance to further their careers through a world-class and holistic training and development curriculum that benefits them both within and outside of the company.  Just this year, McDonald's Philippines was selected Employer of the Year by the People Management Association of the Philippines, demonstrating the company's superior employment and talent development standards.

McDonald's Philippines is also committed to making a difference in local communities, not only by contributing to socioeconomic activity, but also through environmental and sustainability programs under the Green & Good platform, as well as programs that drive positive community impact through Ronald McDonald House Charities.

About McDonald’s Philippines
McDonald’s Philippines master franchise holder Dr. George T. Yang—who oversees and sits as chairman for 40 years—founded and brought the first McDonald’s store to the country in 1981. Since then, McDonald’s in the Philippines has been a formidable player in the country’s quick-service restaurant industry, having grown a store network of more than 800 stores nationwide with a workforce of more than 70,000 employees. Under the leadership of President and CEO Kenneth S. Yang McDonald’s Philippines continues to aspire to make a difference in communities where it operates through its charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House Charities Philippines.

Since Manila Water began operations in 2011, Clark Water has invested around P6.6 billion to modernize water and wastewater systems throughout the Freeport Zone.  These enhancements were made feasible through close coordination with its regulator, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC), led by President and CEO Atty.  Agnes VST Devanadera, as well as ongoing support from locators within the zone.

As a consequence of these strategic investments, Clark Water routinely provides 100% coverage for water and wastewater services, continuous service, full regulatory compliance, and industry-leading performance, cementing its position as a leader in the Philippine water utility market.

Clark Water maintains operational excellence with four strategic pillars: efficiency, environmental protection, customer value, and people and community.  These serve as the foundation for its objective to provide Clark Freeport Zone residents with long-term, high-quality water solutions.

Clark Water guarantees low pricing, 24-hour service, and complete compliance with Philippine National Drinking Water Standards.  The Company maintains world-class Non-Revenue Water (NRW) levels of just 6%, with a 20% supply buffer for reliability.  It has completed 100% sewer network integration and maintains a centralized, compliant wastewater treatment facility that meets DENR standards (DAO 2016-08 and DAO 2021-19).

Since Manila Water assumed operations in 2011, Clark Water has invested approximately P6.6-billion to upgrade water and wastewater systems across the Freeport Zone

These accomplishments come as demand grows, with locators rising from 1,096 in 2021 to 1,213 in 2025, and total water service connections reaching 1,894.

“Hindi pwedeng walang tubig, and we have lots of restaurants and hotels. We cannot afford to have water that is below standard. These are the challenges to Clark Water, and I am very proud to say that they have kept their commitment, their promise, and their performance.” ~Atty. Agnes VST Devanadera, Clark Development Corporation (CDC), led by President and CEO

Beyond its core activities, Clark Water advocates for a safe and inclusive workplace, as well as encouraging employee and community well-being through responsible water resource management.  The Company's effect goes beyond the Freeport Zone by supporting water access projects in Pampanga, constructing critical water supply facilities, and installing chilled drinking fountains to promote hydration and public health.

Clark Water recognizes the necessity of continuing to invest in its facilities as the CFZ thrives as one of the Philippines' leading tourism and investment destinations.

“Continuous investment in water and wastewater infrastructure is critical to sustaining the growth of the Clark Freeport Zone as one of the Philippines’ premier tourism and investment destinations. By upgrading our facilities and introducing innovative solutions, we ensure that locators and communities have access to reliable, high-quality, and sustainable services. These improvements not only support economic development but also reinforce our commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term resilience.” ~Lyn Zamora, General Manager of Clark Water

Clark Water's long-term vision includes the 2026 Service Improvement Plan, a strategic program that focuses on four critical areas.  Water Security prioritizes diversifying water sources to lessen dependency on groundwater, hence assuring sustainability and resilience.  Service Quality promotes facility modifications to meet changing water and wastewater regulations, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.  Service Accessibility and Continuity provide service growth and reliability to meet the expanding needs of Clark Freeport Zone locators while ensuring uninterrupted operations.  Finally, Regulatory Compliance demonstrates Clark Water's dedication to satisfying all regulatory standards while also meeting the water and wastewater demands of its customers.

“As we celebrate 25 years of service, we reaffirm our commitment to world-class water and wastewater solutions for the Clark Freeport Zone. This milestone is a promise for the future—where sustainability, innovation, and excellence remain at our core. With the investment, we will continue supporting growth while protecting our environment and communities. Thank you to our partners and stakeholders for your trust as we build a stronger, more resilient Clark.” ~Melvin Tan, COO of Manila Water Non-East Zone Operations

Starting 2026 until 2040, Clark Water will invest a total of P17.3-billion for planned infrastructure upgrades and system enhancements.
