The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and BPI/MS Insurance Corporation (BPI MS) have created BPI Kaya Care Critical Illness Insurance, a simple, accessible, and cost-effective plan designed to help Filipinos protect themselves and their loved ones from today's most catastrophic health threats.
BPI Kaya Care was established to solve a growing health crisis: the rising number of Filipinos diagnosed with serious illnesses. According to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, ischemic heart disease, cancer, and cerebrovascular illnesses such as stroke would be the top three causes of death in 2023.
To assist Filipinos plan for these risks, BPI Kaya Care provides a lump-sum cash benefit upon the diagnosis of any of the following serious illnesses: cancer, heart attack, or stroke. Clients diagnosed at an early stage receive 50% of the benefit, while those diagnosed at a later stage or with a serious diagnosis receive the entire amount.
This cash benefit, which can be received as long as the insured survives seven days following diagnosis, allows policyholders to begin treatment quickly and retain financial security at a difficult time. While the benefit is primarily meant for medical interventions, families may use it for therapy, medication, or everyday living expenditures, whatever is most important to them.
“At BPI, our purpose is clear: to Build a Better Philippines, one family, one community at a time. For too long, critical illness insurance has felt complex and out of reach. We wanted to change that. BPI Kaya Care is more than a policy—it’s a partner that helps families focus on recovery without financial strain, support that truly matters when it matters most.” ~Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go, Consumer Banking Head of BPI
Unlike treatment-specific government programs, BPI Kaya Care covers an important gap: many Filipinos postpone treatment after being diagnosed because they lack time to secure funding. Kaya Care offers urgent cash assistance, removing this barrier so that patients and families may focus on timely treatment and improved health results.
Premiums for this protection start at ₱859 per year, depending on the client's age and chosen plan, making it affordable for many Filipino households. Enrollment has also been made easy and convenient.
Customers can obtain the product online at kayacare.bpims.com or by visiting any BPI branch or the local BPI MS office. The claims process is both easy and supportive, demonstrating the product's commitment to accessibility.
“The silent crisis of underinsurance, coupled with surging medical costs, creates an urgent need for simple, accessible insurance solutions. BPI MS is proud to collaborate with BPI to bring BPI Kaya Care to life. By delivering this vital and affordable protection to the core and middle markets, we are helping more Filipino families secure their future and take control of their health without compromising their financial stability.” ~Noriyuki Kobayashi, President and CEO of BPI MS
The introduction of BPI Kaya Care represents BPI's larger commitment to boosting Filipino families and strengthening national resilience. As the government continues to invest in strengthening healthcare infrastructure, including considerable financing for specialist hospitals, BPI Kaya Care guarantees that Filipino families have not only access to these facilities, but also the financial means to pay for necessary treatments.
