SM Store launches Shop & Share for Education program to empower Filipino children

Recently, the SM Store brought back its Shop & Share for Education initiative, giving students access to school supplies just in time for the start of the 2024–2025 academic year.

The goal of Shop & Share for Education is to provide 12,000 grade school students in more than 70 public schools across the country with back-to-school kits. During the July 1st to July 31st period, customers are encouraged to sponsor a child's school kit for just P100 when they make a minimum single-receipt purchase of P3,000. Notebooks, pad paper, pencils, ballpoint pens, envelopes, and bond paper are all included in the kits.

Shop & Share for Education, now in its second year, is an initiative by SM Store to assist in addressing one of the top concerns facing the Philippine education sector: the lack of access to basic school supplies. According to Department of Education data, more than 22 million students were enrolled in public schools for the 2023–2024 academic year. Save the Children Philippines, a non-governmental organization, reported that many Filipino students in rural areas do not even own a pencil.

Twenty schools nationwide benefited from the first Shop & Share program, which was run in collaboration with several NGOs and the local government units of the adopted schools. The endeavor was successful because it demonstrated how, given its size and national reach, the SM Store can develop into a good channel for cooperative social good. Every SM Store is expected to adopt one school beneficiary as part of this year's campaign.

SM Store thinks that involving its customers makes a bigger difference for the people who benefit from the program. It is suggested that everyone contribute by making sure the school kit is on the shopping list for the upcoming July trip. A school child in need today will benefit from an enhanced educational experience through each sponsored school kit, and they will eventually grow up to be stewards of a brighter future.
