Women Rising in the World of Manufacturing
Sheryll Elic, PCPPI Senior Manager for Manufacturing Operations, wraps up a productive day with her team at the Rosario plant. |
Women's leadership positions in the historically male-dominated field of manufacturing continue to be difficult to obtain. Deep-rooted gender biases, limited mentorship opportunities, and the widespread belief that technical and operational professions are more suited to men all impede their growth.
However, for Sheryll Elic of Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI), breaking down these obstacles meant more than simply personal accomplishment; it also meant clearing the way for future generations of female leaders.
Women still confront considerable barriers to obtaining top positions in the traditionally male-dominated manufacturing industry. The general notion that technical and operational professions are better suited to men, deep-seated gender biases, and a lack of mentorship opportunities usually stymie their growth.
However, for Sheryll Elic of Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI), overcoming these challenges was about more than just personal achievement; it was also about opening doors for aspiring female leaders.
“The weight of my work at that time was heavier than the weight of being with my two kids. While I was struggling, both my direct reports and my immediate superior, the Area Operations Director, had my back. Breaking Stereotypes. Even if you are a mother or a female leader, as long as you are guided by company rules and regulations, you must perform your duties and responsibilities—even when the decisions are tough. I assess people based on their knowledge, experience, and expertise to foster continuous improvement. PCPPI has started to raise the bar to give more opportunities for women to lead a male-dominated manufacturing department. More female applicants are being hired, and once a woman steps into leadership, she becomes a role model for aspiring female professionals. Through equal recognition, training, and opportunities, we can create an industry where women don’t just survive but thrive. If someone tells you, ‘you can do it,’ cling to it, but also ensure you have a clear goal and a set objective.” ~Sheryll Elic, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI)
She found strength in her mentors' trust and her team's encouragement. PCPPI, the country's official maker of PepsiCo beverages, continues to vigorously support for women's empowerment in the workplace.
The confidence of her mentors and the encouragement of her team gave her strength. Women's empowerment in the workplace is still a top priority for PCPPI, the nation's sole PepsiCo beverage maker.
Breaking Stereotypes
In the field, she is conducting spot checks with the section manager as part of their daily commitment to ensuring top-quality production at every step. |
Despite the increasing number of female executives, myths about women in leadership linger. Many people believe that women, who are typically perceived as more soft-hearted or motherly, are less capable of handling pressure.
Elic's leadership philosophy is based on two essential principles: effective communication and empathy. She believes that operational success begins with effective communication, which ensures that all team members are working toward a common goal. But she also highlights the necessity of understanding the people behind the business.
This strategy has led to industrial success and the creation of a workplace culture in which people feel valued and understood. Her leadership has recently been instrumental in revamping PCPPI. Under her leadership, the organization purposefully established opportunities for women in leadership.
Women in Manufacturing
Elic anticipates a future in which women continue to advance in the industrial industry. She agrees that the picture is changing, with female executives generating headlines in both the business and industrial sectors.
But she recognizes that there is still work to be done. Elic's advise to young women aiming to leadership posts is simple yet powerful: "Believe in yourself." She recalls speaking to chemical engineering students at Saint Louis University and emphasizing the need of self-confidence.
"Her story is more than just inspiring—it’s a powerful call to action for women to rise, take charge, and reshape leadership on their own terms. And at PCPPI, we are committed to fostering their growth, championing their success, and ensuring they can thrive." ~Atty. Carina Bayon, PCCPI’s Chief Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Officer
Her journey demonstrates the growing strength of female leadership in professions previously dominated by males. Elic's dedication not only earned her an international award from PepsiCo in 2014, but also established a standard for future female leaders to follow.

Every Drop Counts: PCPPI champions responsible water usage

Every Drop Counts: PCPPI champions responsible water usage |
The country's only PepsiCo beverage manufacturer, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI), is continuing to fulfill its commitment to encourage ethical water stewardship throughout its operations. The organization used 5.4% less water overall in 2023 than it did the year before. This illustrates PCPPI's ongoing efforts to guarantee appropriate water use, especially during the production process.
When conducting water use audits to track consumption throughout its facilities, PCPPI adheres to both international standards and PepsiCo's guidelines. The organization uses up to 50% of its water supply for washing returnable glass bottles. Regular scheduling of equipment maintenance and updates is done to maximize efficiency. To keep technical teams up to date on proper machine use, training courses and policy refresher sessions are also held.
PCPPI's efforts to reduce water use are augmented by reducing the frequency of Clean-In-Place (CIP) procedures in specific facilities. An estimated 30 cubic meters of water are used for each CIP procedure, which ensures cleanliness in the production area. In addition to increasing operating hours, PCPPI uses recycled water to maximize CIP periods.
With the Adopt-A-River Program, PCPPI has been an enduring partner of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local governments in the areas it serves. Organizations are able to maintain and care for bodies of water in their operational areas thanks to this initiative. Currently, PCPPI has active agreements with the local governments of Cebu, Pampanga, Davao, Leyte, Zamboanga, and its home city of Muntinlupa.
The bigger picture
March 22 marks World Water Day, an initiative of the United Nations (UN) that promotes responsible use of and better access to safe water. PCPPI remains committed to furthering its position as a champion of water stewardship, especially since the resource is vital to its operations. Aside from the programs mentioned earlier, the organization empowers its employees to develop smarter, more innovative ways to uphold global standards while ensuring that water usage is managed and reduced over time.

A Healthier 2023 Begins with Simple, Meaningful Lifestyle Choices
With the start of a new
year comes fresh opportunities to make better, healthier choices. Developing
habits supporting one’s lifestyle goals may prove to be challenging, but Pepsi-Cola
Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) encourages Filipinos to take even small,
simple steps to build sustainable habits over time.
“Our brands support Filipinos as they take strides towards a healthier, more productive 2023. We believe that by making more mindful choices over time, more people can reap the positive benefits of adopting a more active, balanced lifestyle.” ~Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI President and Chief Executive Officer
Aside from
exclusively producing well-loved beverages such as Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew,
and Gatorade in the country, PCPPI also bottles and distributes Premier
Purified Water. As one of the country’s respected drinking water brands,
Premier Purified guarantee consumer satisfaction as products pass high
standards after stringent quality and safety testing.
PCPPI suggests five key
tips to start 2023 on the right foot:
· Explore
healthier dietary options. According
to the World Health Organization (WHO), adults should maintain a diet high in
fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and grains, but lower in salt, free sugar, and
saturated fats. When filling one’s food basket, spend a few more minutes to
check the nutrition labels. Developing healthy dietary habits may help strengthen
the body in fighting non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart
disease, stroke, and cancer.
· Integrate
movement in your daily routine. The worst exercise routine is a non-existent one. According
to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an adult needs 150
minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week. That’s only 30
minutes every week day, so getting a few steps, skips, and stretches in may
work wonders for one’s overall well-being.
Engaging
in physical activities can also improve one’s self-esteem and cognitive
functions, and can also help reduce tendencies for anxiety and depression.
· Recovery
is key. While
physical activity and dietary choices are important in one’s annual health
kick-start, getting adequate rest allows the body to recharge and reset. More
than getting sufficient hours of sleep, medical studies suggest reducing one’s
use of digital devices while in bed to help improve the quality of resting
time.
· Make
time for mental health. Practicing
self-care and kindness goes a long way. Taking
a few minutes to pause and reflecting on the brighter side of daily life can do
wonders when managing stress. One’s health also has to do with embracing
mindfulness, patience, and compassion towards oneself and others. It may help
to keep a daily journal, or write down three positive things that happened at
the end of the day as forms of “self check-in.”
· Drink
more water. The
CDC says everyone should consume eight to 10 glasses of water. Aside from
preventing dehydration, doing so helps regulate cognitive, hormonal, and
circulatory functions. Having a bottle of Premier Purified Water handy is
recommended for proper nourishment even when on-the-go.
Other than
Premier Purified Water, PCPPI is the sole Philippine manufacturer and
distributor of Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda,
Mug, Gatorade, Sting, Tropicana, Lipton, Aquafina, and Milkis. For more

’Tis the season to be extra!
This Christmas, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc., the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country, enjoins Filipinos to celebrate the Holidays with gusto with “Paskong Extra Sarap with Pepsi.” This fun, vibrant Holiday campaign highlights how Filipinos go above and beyond in making every moment special with loved ones and friends, especially during Christmas and New Year.
With over 13 million views on YouTube, The #PepsiExtraSarapXmas video is top-billed by celebrity love-teams Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, and Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, as well as social media sensation Mimiyuuuh and volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez. The #PepsiExtraSarapXmas campaign aims to empower young Filipinos to be themselves unapologetically. By making stand-out choices—in fashion, hobbies, and even their meal pairings, they can make their holiday celebrations all the more “extra” and memorable with Pepsi.
“This year’s Christmas celebration is extra special for many reasons. After two years of heightened restrictions, we have taken the necessary steps to allow for gatherings with family and close friends while still keeping each other safe. We at PCPPI are excited to experience the Filipino spirit of community and thanksgiving during the ‘most wonderful time of the year,’ with our well-loved beverages as part of every celebration. Let us remember there remains to be plenty of ‘extra’ for us to be thankful for this Christmas and in the coming New Year. May we cherish the bonds that bring us together not just during the Holidays but every day of the years ahead.” ~Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI President and Chief Executive Officer
PCPPI enjoins merrymakers to embrace the season’s festive vibe by going “extra,” be it in their party attire, family games, and even the much-anticipated Noche Buena and Media Noche.

PCPPI opens new Cebu Line, first PET production plant outside of Luzon
Pepsi Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI), the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country, recently opened its newest line in Minglanilla, Cebu. This additional capability will supply the growing requirements of the highly-recyclable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles in the Visayas and Mindanao area.
“This latest Cebu line is the first PET production line of PCPPI outside of Luzon. This plant will now be the main supply source of PCPPI’s PET products for Visayas and Mindanao. PET remains one of the highly-recyclable plastic materials in the world. The new Cebu line reinforces our sustainability commitments, particularly in reducing our use of virgin plastics.” ~Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI President and Chief Executive Officer

Over the years, PCPPI has increased the size of its business in the southern Philippines region in response to increasing product demand. These production lines also improved distribution, allowing more products to be made available not only in Cebu but also in Bohol, Siquijor, Bantayan, and Masbate, among others.

Float in Root Beer Goodness on Root Beer Float Day
A month has passed
since the world celebrated the National Root Beer Float Day, but there are
still cafes and restaurants that continue to root for this bubbly and foamy
drink by serving it in various, creative ways.
Did you know that
there are several homemade recipes for root beer float using fun and
easy-to-find ingredients?
The staple, of
course, is root beer. One of the brands available in the local market is Mug
Root Beer, a product of Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI)—the
exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country.
“We are happy to see people do their own take on root beer float using Mug, as this perfectly represents the brand. It is refreshingly good, with its rich foam and unique aroma.” ~Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI president and chief executive officer
Other than the
classic root beer and vanilla ice cream float recipe, the food website, insanelygoodrecipes.com,
shared other fun ways to make root beer float:
Kim Benson of insanelygoodrecipes.com wrote:
- Chocolate makes everything better, so why not make a chocolate float? All you’ll need are chocolate ice cream, root beer, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings or sprinkles.
- Love cookies and cream? Turn them into a float! Make it with cookies and cream ice cream, cream soda, whipped cream, and some crushed Oreo cookies.
- For added refreshment, top the ice cream with fruits and berries.
Now, it’s our turn to
try these recipes. Together, let’s raise our mugs to the star of the drink—root
beer!
Mug Root Beer is
available in 330ml can, 1.5L PET, and 2L PET in supermarkets, groceries, and
convenience stores. PCPPI is the exclusive manufacturer of well-known beverage
brands in the Philippines: Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda, Mug,
Gatorade, Tropicana, Lipton, Sting, Premier, Milkis, and Aquafina.
