Autism Society Philippines, SM Cares hold talks on autism issues for Nat’l Autism Consciousness Week

In observance of the 27th National Autism Consciousness Week, Autism Society Philippines (ASP) and SM Cares, the City Government of Mandaluyong, and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) recently hosted a panel discussion on autism inclusion at SM Megamall Cinema 4 last January 20.

Titled "AOK Pilipinas, Live!," the event facilitated meaningful conversations on various issues concerning people on the autism spectrum and their loved ones, in line with the theme "Building a Nation Powered by Transformative Autism-inclusive Innovation."

Guests and panelists include P3PWD Representative, Hon. Rowena Guanzon; ASP Chair Emerita Dang Koe; ASP National President Mona Magno-Veluz; Mandaluyong City former councilor Charisse Abalos-Vargas; QC Kabahagi Center Executive Director Karen Sagun; Leonard Cheshire Disability Philippines Foundation Executive Director Hazel Borja; and SM Supermalls Assistant Vice President Richard Caluyo, and SM Supermalls Senior Vice President Engr. Bien Mateo. Also present were celebrities Troy Montero, Aubrey Miles, and Candy Pangilinan, who are autism awareness advocates and proud parents of children with autism.

Veluz-Magno moderated the first session, which focused on the importance of innovation in addressing issues concerning people on the spectrum, with Abalos-Vargas, Sagun, Borja, and Caluyo as panelists. This was followed by the first Q&A session of the day. 

During the second session which was moderated by Koe, Montero, Miles, and Pangilinan shared stories and experiences raising children on the spectrum and gave useful tips for other parents living with family members with autism. The panelists also expressed their support for other parents who are taking care of children who have autism and assured them that support is available if and when they need it.

Marketing to Gen Z and Millennials
 
Lato mentioned that the market is now dominated by millennials and Generation Z members. He claimed that the latter are internet natives because they were born in the decade prior to its widespread use.
 
The organization has selected "Level-Up Metaverse Marketing" as its theme for the year 2023. According to Lato, it was inspired by Dr. Donald L. Lim, the lead convenor of the most recent Philippine Blockchain Week and former PMA President. Web3 and the Metaverse's benefits and advancements were the focus of the nine-day event.
 

Welcoming Filipino Marketers Abroad to the PMA
 
Lato shared that one of the organization's major initiatives this year is allowing foreign Filipino marketers to join the PMA. This is in addition to promoting the Web3 and Metaverse.
 
By the end of the first quarter of this year, PMA membership will be available to Filipinos living abroad.
 
Additionally, Lato urged marketing professionals in the nation who have not yet joined the PMA to do so.

 
Something New for the National Conference and Agora Awards
 
Lato revealed that they would host a National Marketing Conference in July with guest speakers from both domestic and international marketing organizations. They would also have a track just for marketers of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) who want to get a head start on Metaverse Marketing.

The Agora Awards, the most prestigious award for professional Filipino marketers, will also be revamped this year. Lato stated that they would soon announce the new awards rules.

Today, EK003, the first Emirates A380 that has been completely refurbished as part of the airline's US$ 2 billion retrofit program, flew on the Dubai-London Heathrow route.

All cabins of the completely redesigned A380 feature the most recent Emirates products and interiors, including 56 seats for Premium Economy class on the main deck and new color schemes in the carpeting and wall panels. Similar to the airline's "game changer" product, First and Business Class seats on the upper deck feature Emirates' most recent cream-colored leather upholstery and lighter-toned wood finishing. The First Class Shower Spa's hand-stenciled panels are another prominent example of Emirates' recognizable ghaf tree motif throughout the interiors.
 
The next Emirates A380 aircraft lined up for its make-over is A6-EUW, and work is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Engineers will be working on two aircraft simultaneously as the program progresses. This means that every eight days, one aircraft in the fleet will be taken out of service and moved to Emirates Engineering facilities. All 67 A380s designated for refurbishment will have been returned to service by 2024. After that, Emirates will begin work on the 53 Boeing 777s it has designated for this project. The program is expected to be finished by the airline in 2025.

Emirates has hired hundreds of skilled workers in addition to working with 48 major partners and suppliers to deliver the largest known aircraft refurbishment program in aviation history.
 
Teams of engineers and technicians have worked around the clock to disassemble the entire interior of the A380 and reassemble the components in a sequence that has been carefully planned and tested.

The 2023 ranking was determined based on the results of an independent survey among over 4,000 customers and employees of restaurant chains in the United States. The respondents were asked to indicate which restaurant chains would they recommend among three ethnic cuisines and 13 dish categories. 

The three ethnic cuisines include Chinese, Italian, and Tex-Mex; while the 13 dish categories consist of BBQ, burgers, chicken, coffee/tea/baked goods, ice cream/frozen yogurt, juice and smoothies, noodles and ramen, pizza, sandwiches, seafood, soup, steak, and Sushi. 

Jollibee was cited in the chicken category, Smashburger for burgers, CBTL for tea and coffee, and Chowking for Chinese cuisine category.

According to Statista, all ratings were transformed into a score value and aggregated towards a final score. The survey respondents rated their experience with the restaurant chains using these nine assessment criteria: taste, cleanliness, hygiene and COVID-19 measures, transparency about ingredients, location, dealing with environmental issues, accessibility, service quality, and treatment of employees. 

To receive an award, a restaurant chain needed to receive a minimum number of recommendations and an overall score of at least 7 out of 10. In addition, a restaurant chain was required to have at least three locations across different cities within at least two U.S. states.
