Pru Life UK empowers Filipinos with affordable cancer protection through PRUCare Cancer Protect

With cancer being one of the leading causes of death in the Philippines1, and a diagnosis frequently putting serious financial strain on families, Pru Life UK today introduced PRUCare Cancer Protect, a 10-year renewable term insurance plan designed to make cancer protection more accessible and assist Filipinos in preparing for its financial impact.

PRUCare Cancer Protect provides comprehensive financial assistance by covering both early- and late-stage cancer, with up to 100% of the sum assured for eligible late-stage cancer claims and 50% for eligible early-stage cancer claims. If an early-stage cancer benefit was claimed, the amount will be deducted from the late-stage cancer benefit claim. It also offers an additional 20% benefit for catastrophic late-stage cancer, reducing the financial burden associated with more complex treatment requirements.

The plan not only protects customers, but it also rewards them for staying healthy. Policyholders who complete a 10-year term without a successful claim can receive up to 50% of their total premiums back, demonstrating the importance of long-term financial planning.

PRUCare Cancer Protect addresses a pressing reality: studies show that more than 40% of Filipino cancer patients face financial hardship during treatment, with many forced to discontinue care. Cancer is still one of the top three causes of death in the country, with approximately 150,000 to 190,000 new cases reported each year, with many patients being diagnosed at later stages when treatment is more complex and expensive.

The product was designed with simplicity in mind, with streamlined, cancer-focused underwriting and hassle-free renewals every ten years that do not require reassessment for health or eligibility. It is ideal for young professionals, breadwinners, and families looking for an affordable way to implement dedicated cancer protection without committing to a more complex long-term insurance solution.

"At Pru Life UK, we believe financial security is about more than growing wealth – it is also about protecting what we value when life's unexpected challenges arise. As cancer remains one of the biggest health and financial risks faced by Filipino families today, PRUCare Cancer Protect is designed to provide meaningful protection in a simple, flexible, and affordable way, giving customers greater confidence and resilience to face the future. As healthcare costs continue to rise, preparation has never been more important. We want to help more Filipinos take proactive steps toward protecting themselves and their loved ones. Having the right financial protection allows families to focus on treatment and recovery instead of worrying about the financial consequences of a serious illness." ~Garen Dee, Chief Product Officer of Pru Life UK

The launch event, titled "Count on Care, Count on PRUtection," featured real-life patient experiences and insights into financial protection via a panel discussion. A cancer survivor shared her personal and financial experiences, emphasizing the importance of acting before it is too late. Dee also talked about how PRUCare Cancer Protect helps Filipinos plan for the potential costs and life-altering effects of cancer.

Attendees received a complimentary Noncommunicable Disease (NCD) risk assessment from partner The Medical City, which was designed to identify potential risks for chronic conditions such as cancer through interview-based screenings.

Pru Life UK customers can also access cancer-relevant value-added benefits through its partnership with The Medical City, including discounts on selected outpatient preventive screens to support early detection, discounts on selected inpatient services for those diagnosed with select critical illnesses, including cancer, and complimentary access to an NCD risk assessment that helps identify risks for cancer.

Pru Life UK's PRUCare Cancer Protect program demonstrates its ongoing commitment to assisting Filipinos in achieving holistic financial well-being by making protection more relevant, accessible, and responsive to current realities.

Creating a financially literate future together: Cha-Ching expands financial literacy education across NCR, fully integrates into Bicol's DepEd curriculum

Pru Life UK and Prudence Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Junior Achievement (JA) Philippines, have expanded the Cha-Ching programme throughout the National Capital Region (NCR) and fully integrated it into the Bicol Region (Region V) DepEd curriculum, reaffirming their commitment to promoting financial literacy among Filipino youth.

Bicol Region (Region V) has become the first region in the Philippines to institutionalize and fully incorporate Cha-Ching into the Department of instruction's school curriculum, marking a significant step forward in the extension of financial literacy instruction through Cha-Ching.  The initiative is also expanding in the National Capital Region.  Over 1.5 million children in the Philippines have been taught Cha-Ching, and more than 47,000 teachers have been educated and retrained.

On June 25, over 100 attendees gathered at the Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City to celebrate these milestones, strengthen partnerships, and highlight the program's long-term vision at an event titled "Cha-Ching: Creating a Financially Literate Future Together," which included representatives from Pru Life UK, Prudence Foundation, program partners, and the Insurance Commission of the Philippines.

Pru Life UK's Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer, Paul Mandal, emphasized the company's strong commitment to financial education, as well as its collaboration with DepEd, in delivering long-term impact and fostering resilience.

“When we teach children the value of money early on, we are empowering a generation to make smarter choices and build a financially secure future.” ~Paul Mandal, Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer of Pru Life UK

Cha-Ching is an award-winning global financial literacy programme developed by Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential plc, Pru Life UK's parent company. It equips the next generation with the financial knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions that lead to financial well-being and a secure future.  In conjunction with JA Asia Pacific, a school curriculum program for children aged seven to twelve was created to impart money-savvy values, knowledge, and behavior.  Over 3 million students have been taught the curriculum in 16 markets in Asia and Africa, with over 87,000 instructors trained to date.

At the occasion, a panel discussion on best practices in financial education was held to assist ongoing efforts to advance financial literacy in the Philippines.  Dr. Gilbert T. Sadsad, Regional Director of DepEd Region V; Dr. Miguel Mac Aposin, Assistant Regional Director, DepEd Region VI; and Mr. Jed Velarde, President of the JA Philippines Board of Trustees, were on the panel.

To finish the session, the Prudence Foundation offered a presentation on the future of the Cha-Ching programme and the necessity of partnership in addressing the worldwide financial literacy gap.

Through these collaborations, Cha-Ching continues to empower the next generation and inspire change that starts in the classroom and spreads to homes and communities.

Pru Life UK equips madaris’ teachers in Davao City with digital tools to enhance inclusive education

In photo (from left): Former Commissioner Samer Allong of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Francis Macatulad, Executive Director of ASSIST, madaris teachers from Darul Khair Islamic Center, Maahad Talomo Al-Islamie, and Al Madrasah Al-Arabia Wal-Islamiyah, Maricel Estavillo, Pru Life UK Vice President for Sustainability, Jienelle Catnubay, LiteHaus International Philippine Country Lead, and Paul Mandal, Pru Life UK Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer at the ceremonial turnover of donations.

Pru Life UK, the first life insurer in the Philippines to receive a Takaful license, is demonstrating its commitment to inclusive education and sustainable community development by donating digital learning equipment to three community madaris or Islamic schools in Bangkal, Davao City, in collaboration with its advocacy partners, Humble Sustainability and LiteHaus International.

During a changeover exercise at Ummoul Khair Maahad, students, instructors, school principals, and local community leaders from Darul Khair Islamic Center, Maahad Talomo Al-Islamie, and Al Madrasah Al-Arabia Wal-Islamiyah were given laptop computers, projectors, and white screens.

This donation is part of Pru Life UK's Adopt-a-Madrasah program, which began in Davao in 2024 to support the company's community investment efforts in Mindanao.  The programme meets the educational demands of the madaris.

The donation was partially supported by the earnings of Pru Life UK's relationship with circular economy start-up Humble Sustainability, which securely disposed of the insurer's unneeded IT equipment, including old gadgets donated by staff, by selling it through its network.  Another partner, LiteHaus International, an NGO that advocates for digital equity, was tasked with sourcing the donated equipment, which included reconditioned computers.

“Pru Life UK has always been supportive of education and we recognise its role in realising our sustainability target of building resilient communities. Through the Adopt-a-Madrasah programme, we aim to provide practical support to help madaris’ students and teachers access better learning opportunities.” ~Paul Mandal, Pru Life UK's Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer

Since the program's inception, more than 450 students and teachers have received school supplies, hygiene kits, and a creative workshop led by Pru Life UK staff and agent volunteers.  These activities are carried out in collaboration with local Muslim community leaders and government partners.  Pru Life UK's Adopt-a-Madrasah initiative confirms the company's aim to be a trusted partner and guardian for generations, improving lives through education, empowerment, and sustainable development.
