Pru Life UK, the first life insurer in the Philippines to receive a Takaful license, is demonstrating its commitment to inclusive education and sustainable community development by donating digital learning equipment to three community madaris or Islamic schools in Bangkal, Davao City, in collaboration with its advocacy partners, Humble Sustainability and LiteHaus International.
During a changeover exercise at Ummoul Khair Maahad, students, instructors, school principals, and local community leaders from Darul Khair Islamic Center, Maahad Talomo Al-Islamie, and Al Madrasah Al-Arabia Wal-Islamiyah were given laptop computers, projectors, and white screens.
This donation is part of Pru Life UK's Adopt-a-Madrasah program, which began in Davao in 2024 to support the company's community investment efforts in Mindanao. The programme meets the educational demands of the madaris.
The donation was partially supported by the earnings of Pru Life UK's relationship with circular economy start-up Humble Sustainability, which securely disposed of the insurer's unneeded IT equipment, including old gadgets donated by staff, by selling it through its network. Another partner, LiteHaus International, an NGO that advocates for digital equity, was tasked with sourcing the donated equipment, which included reconditioned computers.
“Pru Life UK has always been supportive of education and we recognise its role in realising our sustainability target of building resilient communities. Through the Adopt-a-Madrasah programme, we aim to provide practical support to help madaris’ students and teachers access better learning opportunities.” ~Paul Mandal, Pru Life UK's Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer
Since the program's inception, more than 450 students and teachers have received school supplies, hygiene kits, and a creative workshop led by Pru Life UK staff and agent volunteers. These activities are carried out in collaboration with local Muslim community leaders and government partners. Pru Life UK's Adopt-a-Madrasah initiative confirms the company's aim to be a trusted partner and guardian for generations, improving lives through education, empowerment, and sustainable development.
