McDonald’s Philippines, Davao City Partner to Employ Senior Citizens

McDonald’s Philippines and Davao City kick off the M for All program in the city through the signing of a memorandum of agreement. Also supported by the Department of Labor and Employment and its Public Service Employment Office, M for All will hire 110 senior citizens for McDonald’s stores in Davao City.

McDonald's Philippines plans to hire at least 110 senior residents at 18 of its Davao City locations as part of the company's inclusive hiring program, M at All, which seeks to employ senior citizens and people with disabilities.  The program will last from October 2025 until December 2026.

The quick service restaurant (QSR) behemoth has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Davao City Government, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Public Service Employment Office (PESO).

A welcoming and inclusive workplace for seniors

As McDonald's Philippines expands and opens new outlets throughout the country, there is a growing demand for a creative workforce.  While working students and recent graduates (Gen Z) make up a large portion of McDonald's talent pool, the corporation also strongly believes in giving job possibilities for people in their 60s and beyond.

M for All is a component of McDonald's Philippines' people practices, providing employees with job security, an inclusive workplace, and a world-class training and development program.  Since 1981, when Chairman and Master Franchise Holder Dr. George T. Yang launched the first restaurant in Manila, McDonald's Philippines has implemented direct employment and non-contractualization, ensuring job stability for its nearly 65,000 employees.

“McDonald’s Philippines is committed to generating employment opportunities for Filipinos, regardless of their age, gender, and background. Our inclusive workplace is a welcoming environment not just for working students and working-age individuals, but also out-of-school youth, persons with disabilities, and through this partnership, senior citizens. We’re excited to partner with Davao City for the M For All  Program, and we’re looking forward to more opportunities for collaboration and partnership that will benefit the people and communities. Since opening our first store in Davao City in the 1990s, McDonald’s Philippines has seen impressive growth and development in the city. For over 30 years, McDonald’s has seen families create feel-good memories, employees develop into the best versions of themselves, and the entire Davao City become stronger and more progressive. ~Adi Hernandez, Assistant Vice President for Corporate Relations and Impact

Since its inception in 2019, M For All (previously the Alternative Workforce Program) has employed senior adults at its stores. In 2025, the initiative was revived and executed in Manila, Pasay, Caloocan, Parañaque, Pasig, San Fernando City in Pampanga, and Bacoor, Cavite, encompassing 61 company-owned and franchised businesses.

M For All is McDonald's Philippines' inaugural cooperation program with Davao City and its first activation outside of Luzon. The program will also be launched in collaboration with other LGUs in Luzon and Visayas in the coming months.

Under the M For All initiative, each suitable applicant gets hired for a five-month period, working four hours per day, five days a week. Each applicant is allocated to the store lobby, where they engage with guests and clients, present their orders and drinks, and manage the tables. Aside from earning government-required salaries (which include a percentage of the mandated 13th-month compensation), they are also covered by group life insurance provided by the employer.

Thirty years in Davao City

The beloved quick-service restaurant has been dedicated not just to providing customers with enjoyable experiences, but also to improving the lives of those it employs and the communities it serves.

In Davao City alone, nearly 2,000 store managers and service personnel are discovering their Best Me in the city's 22 McDonald's locations, creating jobs for locals and surrounding areas while also contributing to local economic development.

The 800th McDonald's restaurant opened in Davao Global Township in July, becoming Mindanao's first "Green & Good" establishment. McDonald's Davao Global Township is a Green & Good store with solar panels, rainwater harvesting tanks, energy-saving motion sensors, LED lights, and efficient air-conditioning systems.  These features considerably cut energy usage and use of natural resources.

Green & Good also encourages an environmentally responsible lifestyle.  The Davao Global Township store boasts bike-friendly features that appeal to not just serious bikers, but also beginners and enthusiasts.
