Find Your Purpose with Mondelēz International

In the Philippines, Mondelēz International recently commemorated its Purpose Day, an annual occasion aimed at reaffirming the company's goal of enabling people to snack responsibly. The #ProudToBeMDLZ theme of this year's celebration aimed to inspire its staff to make thoughtful decisions in their daily lives, whether it be in their snacking patterns or their dedication to health and fitness. Its internal Walk-Run-Bike-Workout (WRBW) Challenge, a company-wide fitness initiative that saw nearly 100 participants embrace the importance of health along with mindful snacking, also came to an end during the event.

Aleli Arcilla, Managing Director of Mondelēz International in the Philippines, underscored the connection between snacking and well-being.

“At Mondelēz International, where snacking is at the heart of what we do, it's important to remind ourselves that we must be mindful about our actions. We support making purposeful choices, both in how much we snack and how much time we devote to physical fitness. That’s why we started the WRBW challenge in 2021, at the height of the pandemic. To remind our people that wellness should always be a priority. On this our 3rd year, I am happy to see the commitment of our people to their own wellbeing, something the company greatly supports. It was a day meant for recharging and reconnecting with what drives our people. Mental health is a priority for our Company and we wanted to dedicate day for that, apart from the support provided to our colleagues all year round. ~Aleli Arcilla, Managing Director of Mondelēz International in the Philippines

Purpose Day commemorated the WRBW Challenge's end, which saw outstanding outcomes in every category. twelve million steps were taken in the Walk challenge, more than three thousand kilometers were run in the Run challenge, almost six thousand kilometers were cycled in the Bike challenge, and an staggering seven hundred thousand were burned during the workout. Fostering a culture of health and well-being within the company was just as important as individual achievements in this challenge.

As a key component of Mondelēz International's worldwide dominance in the snacking sector, the event emphasized the company's commitment to Mindful Snacking. Workers were reminded of the importance of snacking more mindfully, which includes choosing healthier snacks, consuming smaller portions, and taking the time to enjoy the flavors. Mondelēz International's continuous efforts to encourage mindful snacking in order to have a more fulfilling snacking experience and prevent overindulgence are reflected in these initiatives.

The observance of "Find Your Purpose Day" on October 4th, a free day for staff members to take stock, rejuvenate, and re-establish a connection with their own purpose, was another noteworthy Purpose Day initiative. In honor of World Mental Health Day this October, the company is encouraging both professional and personal growth by giving staff members a day off to relax and concentrate on their motivations.

As a world leader in the snacking sector, Mondelēz International is committed to fostering a culture in which its staff members lead more thoughtful lives and make well-rounded decisions in both their personal and professional lives. The company's dedication to creating the right snacks at the right time in the right manner is demonstrated by the success of Purpose Day and the WRBW Challenge. In recognition of its commitment, Mondelēz International was recently inducted into the HR Asia Hall of Fame, marking its fifth consecutive year as one of Asia's Best Companies to Work for.

Mondelēz International Enters HR Asia Awards Hall of Fame

At the HR Asia Awards 2024, Mondelēz International, based in the Philippines, received the esteemed Gold Harmonia Award. This enhances its standing in the Philippines Chapter of the Hall of Fame as one of the Best Companies to Work for in Asia. This is a noteworthy accomplishment that demonstrates Mondelēz International's continuous dedication to creating an amazing work environment. It is the fifth year in a row that the company has been granted this honor in the Philippines.

A Legacy of Growth and Excellence

Mondelēz International was honored by the HR Asia Awards for its unwavering commitment to fostering an atmosphere that puts its partners' and employees' development and well-being above all else. Initiatives that center on three main pillars—growing the company, growing its partners, and growing its people—are essential to this success. These pillars form the cornerstone of Mondelēz International's daily objectives, guaranteeing that every facet of the company is in harmony with its mission to enable individuals to make healthy snacking choices.

The establishment of strong leadership initiatives, like the Leadership Council, which is instrumental in forming the company's culture, has been a major contributor to this success. The establishment of an inclusive, cooperative, and high-performing culture has been greatly aided by this council, giving employee leaders the tools they need to make significant contributions to the objectives of the company.

Leadership in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Additionally, Mondelēz International takes great satisfaction in being a business that promotes a diverse, equitable, and inclusive (DEI) work environment. Aspects of employment and culture have been assessed for both present and prospective workers to make sure that people are valued and acknowledged for their abilities and skills rather than being subjected to discrimination on the basis of their gender, race, or religion. The company recently updated its sexual harassment policy, taking into account the needs of LGBTQIA coworkers. It also installed a gender-neutral restroom in its 61-year-old facility and implemented a local DEI policy that protects workers' rights to safe spaces, to wear whatever they choose, and to use their chosen name.

Innovations in HR Practices

Apart from emphasizing leadership development, the snack company has integrated state-of-the-art innovations into its HR procedures. The company has revolutionized its operations and improved the employee experience by making significant advancements in automation and digitization. One initiative is the innovative onboarding process for new hires, which uses virtual reality (VR). For those who are stationed in remote areas of the Philippines, this program offers a virtual tour of the company's office, which is very helpful. These developments have improved productivity, streamlined procedures, and given the business a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Being a leader in HR innovation has helped Mondelēz International maintain its standing as one of the best employers in the area.

Hall of Fame and a Triple Win

The same evening, Mondelēz International was also recognized with awards from the HR Excellence Awards: Bronze for Women Empowerment Strategy, Gold for Excellence in Employee Advocacy and Brand Ambassadorship, and Gold for Excellence in Workplace Culture. The award ceremony, which was founded in 2022, intends to give HR teams a platform to demonstrate their plans and projects. It has developed into a reliable benchmarking tool for many industries over time. Thanks to its purpose-driven initiatives and engaging culture-building programs, Mondelēz International was able to achieve these awards and increase employee engagement, as evidenced by the company's most recent employee survey.

A Culture of Growth, a Great Place to Work

Without the commitment and diligence of its staff, Mondelēz International would not have been able to win awards at the HR Asia Awards and HR Excellence Awards.

“This award is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our entire team to creating a workplace that truly values and empowers every individual,” she stated. “At Mondelēz International, we believe that our people are our greatest asset, and this recognition reflects the collective efforts we’ve made to foster a culture of growth, innovation, and inclusivity. We are incredibly proud to be recognized among the best companies to work for in Asia, and we will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.” ~April Valencia, Country People Lead for the Philippines
