SM Center Sangandaan offers FREE AI Skills Session

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people study, work, and conduct business, SM Center Sangandaan plans to assist members of the community in better understanding and navigating the technology through a free upskilling session focused on practical AI applications.

The learning session, titled "AI for All," will take place on September 12, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the 2nd floor of SM Center Sangandaan, which is adjacent to KKV.

The session's goal is to make artificial intelligence more accessible by moving beyond technical jargon and focusing on how AI can be applied in everyday work, business, productivity, and career advancement.

Participants will learn about the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and prompt engineering, as well as practical AI applications in the workplace, business, and productivity. The session will also cover responsible and ethical AI use, assisting learners in understanding not only what the technology can do, but also how it should be applied.

The program will also introduce participants to IBM SkillsBuild, which will offer them additional learning resources as they continue to develop their skills in an increasingly digital workplace.

The free learning session is part of SM Supermalls' ongoing effort to bring accessible skill development and career opportunities closer to Filipino communities.

As AI becomes more prevalent in various industries, learning how to use it can provide students, job seekers, working professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs with another tool for navigating new opportunities.

Because "Your next skill could open your next door," SM Center Sangandaan encourages the community to take the first step by learning something new, understanding emerging technologies, and becoming more prepared for the future.

The AI for All session is made possible by the collaboration of SM Supermalls, DICT, and IBM SkillsBuild, which brings together industry and learning partners to make digital skill development more accessible to the community.

For registration details and additional information, interested participants should scan the QR code found in the official event materials or visit the SM Center Sangandaan's official Facebook page for the most recent event updates and announcements.

The Digital Corner is expected to benefit thousands of Filipinos annually, especially graduating SHS students preparing to enter the workforce or pursue further training in tech-enabled fields.

DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT STARTS WITH SHS STUDENTS

Nearly 1,000 SHS students, accompanied by parents and teachers from over 40 schools, participated in the J.O.B.S. Immersion for SHS 2025 launch. The event marks the rollout of the Enhanced Work Immersion Pilot (EWIP), a collaboration between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), with SM Supermalls serving as a key venue and industry partner, alongside SM Retail.

The EWIP is transforming the SHS experience by increasing work immersion hours from the current 80–320 hours to 420–640 hours. This expanded, hands-on training is backed by industry partners who co-develop training plans to align classroom learning with real-world skills in sectors like retail, hospitality, and technology.

Industry leaders from SM Retail VP for Human Resources Ms. Maria Teresa P. Portillo, Newport World Resorts Marketing and Administrative Head Mr. Mark Ross Rubio and Department of Science and Technology- Information and Communications Office (DOST-ICT Office) Deputy Executive Director Ms. Beatrice Quimson share career insights and mentorship during the SHS Immersion Talks.

At the launch, companies including SM Retail and Newport World Resorts provided students with insights into job expectations and workplace values. Throughout the day, students also attended career readiness sessions with experts and explored opportunities presented by industry and government partners in a special Digital Economy Showcase.

BPI collaborates with USAID-BEACON and DICT to train government workers in Cybersecurity

The first batch of graduates from the cybersecurity certification training, made possible through the collaboration of DICT, USAID-BEACON, and BPI.

In a groundbreaking public-private partnership, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and USAID's Better Access and Connectivity (BEACON) project, has launched an extensive Cybersecurity Training and Certification Program.

As part of this initiative, BPI sponsored a five-day CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) cybersecurity certification course for 17 government employees.

Jonathan John Paz, BPI Enterprise Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer, welcomes government employees to the cybersecurity certification training.

BPI has strengthened its position as a leader in cybersecurity and a proponent of nation-building through technology and digital resilience by becoming the first private institution to collaborate with DICT and USAID-BEACON to hold a comprehensive, in-person cybersecurity certification. In order to boost the number of certified cybersecurity professionals among government workers, the program is in line with the government's National Cybersecurity Plan 2023–2028.

Along with supporting DICT's theme of "Cyber Tiwala, Cyber Handa, Cyber Tatag" for Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CSAM) 2024, the initiative highlights the critical need for cross-sector partnerships to counter the growing threat of cyberattacks.

“Through collaborations like this, we aim to create a secure and thriving future for the Philippines. We thank the DICT and USAID-BEACON for being our allies in advancing cybersecurity initiatives that will benefit the entire nation.” ~Jonathan John Paz, BPI Enterprise Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer

BPI continues to lead the charge in cybersecurity efforts, working alongside the government and organizations to build a safer and more secure digital landscape for all Filipinos.
