Ortigas ART Festival 2019 at Estancia Capitol Commons

Before the official opening for public viewing, the Ortigas Art Festival 2019 held its Media Launch on February 20, 2019 - Estancia Capitol Commons 2/F Bridgeway and to formally inaugurate the Art exhibit, a ribbon cutting was led by the Arch. Renee Bacani VP of Ortigas Company.

Now on its second year, following its successful turnout last year. The exhibit continues to put its efforts towards establishing Estancia as the art hub of Ortigas. This year’s approach brought individual artists to the spotlight, showcasing their creative individuality and placing them at the forefront of the art scene.

Ortigas & Company launched the 10-day Ortigas Art Festival to assert their commitment to bringing arts and culture closer to the people. It was the idea of Renato Habulan, a renowned social realist painter, to tap the various groups of artists from all over the country and give them a venue to exhibit their works. Ortigas Malls was receptive to the idea of promoting grassroots participation in the art scene. No gallery representation – just artists working together; no admission charge for the viewers – walk through the art for free.

Among the featured artists is master engraver Benjie Torrado Cabrera, the only engraver in the country specializing in this laborious, centuries-old medium. His works, which are complex in detail, are inspired by his interest in cosmology, with geometric shapes and spheres that signify the universe.

Another one to look out for is Darwin “Japat” Guevarra, a  self-taught artist inspired by the works of masters and his peers, showcases works that reflect his concepts of life and social realism, expressed through his mastery of the paintbrush, sculpting, photography, and experimenting with scrap and molded materials.

The rapidly-evolving festival has already grabbed the attention of various artists from across the globe, including some from New York, Los Angeles, and Singapore who want to become part of this movement-- a sign that bigger and better things will come about in the coming years for Ortigas Art Festival.

Inspired by Ronald Castrillo, Richard discovered a natural fondness for bending, crafting, cutting, welding and molding materials – which will be showcased at the art festival. Make sure to check out the works of Richard Buxani, an architect who has since harnessed his talent to create sculptures made out of metal.

"Ortigas & Company is delighted to see that support for contemporary Philippine art has been growing. As part of our commitment to the arts, we are holding the second run of this art festival in the hope that this will increase appreciation for the creative individuality of artists. By holding this in Estancia, we are also making art accessible to Filipinos, especially for our mall patrons and the Capitol Commons community,” concluded Arch. Renee Bacani, VP of Ortigas & Company.

Her works express the minimal, abstract, and even the surreal aspects of places she visits. Also in the spotlight is photographer Bern Wong, with her camera that has captured the most moving meditative and breathtaking landscapes she has seen encountered in her travels.

Also joining the art festival are artists from all over the country, whose works mirror the great talent of Filipino artists. The roster includes AgawXena, Agos Kulay Maynila, Banta Artist Initiative, Himbon, Biskeg, The Guild, Group Artists of Taytay, Association of Pinoy Printmakers, Hilaga, and Westgrove Fine Arts.

To create a more interactive and immersive art experience, various activities have also been lined up, which visitors can join for free. On February 23, master engraver Benjamin Cabrera shows his prowess in print-making. For those interested in watercolors, watercolor artist Peter Sutcliffe will hold tutorials on February 24 and March 2. On March 3, Renato Habulan introduces guests to Print Alla Prima with the Master. Throughout the festival, the public is also encouraged to participate through the “Comment Areas” where they can share their thoughts and opinions to let the artists know how their works are perceived.

Rico’s Lechon is bringing Cebu’s best lechon right in the heart of Manila as it opens its fifth store at SM Mall of Asia Complex, Level 1, South Wing, Seaside Avenue in Pasay. It's another exciting and mouthwatering addition to the dazzling bay area along Seaside Avenue.

What’s more satisfying than biting into the Queen City’s iconic spicy lechon as you soak up the famous Manila Bay sunset? Sharing this priceless moment—and scrumptious Cebuano fare—with all your loved ones, of course.

Following the opening of Rico’s Lechon Fort Entertainment Complex at Bonifacio Global City, Top of the Glo at Glorietta, Tiendesitas in Ortigas, and U.P. But dining indoors is just as pleasant with eye-catching tropical interiors, wooden furnishings, homey touches that boast of familial atmosphere and bring to mind the quintessential Pinoy salu-salo where people’s hearts are just as full as their stomachs.

And for good reason. Besides its popular lechon, the restaurant offers a number of all-new specialty dishes to please every palate, such as the sinigang boneless bangus, sizzling chicken steak, tortang talong with lechon, fried chicken coated with homestyle sauce, and the lechon fingers with sweet and sour sauce. More shake flavors have been added as well, like mocha, cookies and cream, fruity strawberry, bloody watermelon, and sago at gulaman.

While for those looking for an afternoon fill, Rico’s Lechon is now offering a merienda selection of senior pit lechon mami, lechon arrozcaldo, lechsilog (lechon, sinangag, at itlog), diniguan at puto, and a set of dinuguan, puto, at plain rice.

Try Set A (P700) which consists of lechon sisig, chicken skin, monggoes, two orders of plain rice, two pandan tapiocas, and two bloody watermelon shakes. Have a taste of dishes in Set B (P900) that includes chicken inasal, garlicky squid balls, chopsuey, two plain rice, two pandan tapiocas, and two bloody watermelon shakes. Being the first Filipino brand in the roster of international restaurant brands operated by Meat Concepts Corporation, headed by George Pua, Rico’s Lechon’s Manila debut, as well as the arrival of its famed cooks and roasting team from Cebu, was met with much anticipation and lip-smacking fanfare when it first opened its double doors last August 3, 2018.
