SEA Games 2019 recognized and receives SPIA Asia 2019 Excellence Award

 

 

SPIA Asia - Sports Industry Awards & Conference was inspiring and thought-provoking agenda as interesting as the lineup of speakers from different major international organizations such as LaLiga, World Rugby, Special Olympics, Facebook, Rakuten, Allianz, One Championship, Visa, NBA, Twitter, FIBA, Arsenal, Manchester City, Starladder, 1Play Sports, YouGov Sports, HANZZ+HEIDII and many more.  As well as the presence of sports icons like Ronaldo de Lima, Edwin Moses, Phil Younghusband, Carlos Yulo, and many more athletes at the awards gala took place at the Grand Hyatt Manila in Bonifacio Global City Philippines last December 2-3, 2019.

 



 

The SPIA Asia conference saw over 600 delegates and over 60 speakers, with over 450 submissions in 25 categories nominated for awards.

The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) was awarded a special Excellence Award by SPIA for hosting the 30th edition of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. PHISGOC Chairman and Philippine House of Representatives Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano received the honor from SPIA Chief Executive Officer Eric Gottschalk.

Football playing brothers Phil and James Younghusband were also recognized during the awards gala as Phil, who recently retired from his international football career, had a statue of himself auctioned off for charity. Another Philippine sports personality that was recognized was gymnast Carlos Yulo who won gold at the SEA Games for the All-Around and Floor Exercise as well as silvers in the Pommel Horse and Still Rings.

 The only eight-division boxing champion in history, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, was awarded the Best Asian Sportsman of the Year. Pacquiao started the year by retaining the WBA (Regular) welterweight title via a 12-round unanimous decision over Adrien Broner at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Seven months later at the same venue, “the Pac-Man” won the WBA (Super) welterweight championship via a 12-round split decision over Keith Thurman. 

 

3x FIFA World Player of the Year and currently Chairman of the Real Villadolid Ronaldo Nazario presenting the Best Asian Sportsman of the Year award to Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao.

 

 

The Best Asian Sports Team honor was handed to the Japanese Rugby Team who shocked the world at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, where they served as hosts. After winning the Pacific Nations Cup earlier in the year, Japan was grouped with Russia, Ireland, Samoa, and Scotland. The Brave Blossoms’ 28-21 win over Scotland made them the first Asian team to top their group at the Rugby World Cup and the first Asian team to make it to the knockout stage.

 Other notable winners at the SPIA Awards included The Chongqing Major as Best eSports Event of the Year in Asia, Shopee and Cristiano Ronaldo from SportQuake as Best Brand Activation of the Year, Atrium Sports – Kilsyth Basketball Connected Stadium from Atrium Sports with the Best Use of Technology in Sports, the Rugby World Cup in Japan from World Rugby/Rugby World Cup Limited won both Best International Sporting Event of the Year and Best Sports Digital Platform of the Year, while the WTA Finals 2018 from Lagardere Sports of Singapore was named Best Integrated Marketing Campaign of the Year.

 



The Best Mass Participation Event in the Philippines was given to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority for the National Milo Marathon while Honda Philippines won Best Sponsorship of Sport, Team, Individual, Venue, or Event in the Philippines for the Honda Philippines Nationwide Tour. Meanwhile, the Football 7s Youth Program was awarded the Best Youth Sports Development Program in the Philippines. 

Also present at the two-day conference and awards night was track and field icon Dr. Edwin Moses, chairman of the education committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The American is a sporting legend in the 400m hurdles, having won gold medals at both the 1976 Montreal Olympics and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Yet on top of his many accolades, Moses has arguably accomplished even more after his track and field career as he has served as chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2000 which seeks to promote and increase participation in sport at every level, and also to promote the use of sport as a tool for social change around the world. Moses joined Ronaldo on stage for the “Icon 2 Icon” talk as they discussed their lives both during and after their athletic careers ended.

Last November 28 at Fuller Hall, AIM, Makati City. A very controversial yet timely issue regarding equality in terms of gender has been discussed in a forum on challenging issues. NOTABLES at AIM is a non-traditional speaker series hosted by an array of luminaries with expertise and insight on relevant topics. Organized by The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Master of Business Management (MBM) Batch 1995 has launched Notables at AIM, a nontraditional speaker series hosted by an array of luminaries with expertise and insight on relevant topics. 

“It provides a much-needed arena for informed and purposeful exchange on relevant issues. The third out of the seven fundamental human needs is the need to belong or connection. It comes after subsistence and security, and growth and understanding. Inclusivity addresses and fulfills that need. How do we achieve it? We temper if not altogether do away with discrimination. I must admit I have a brother whose gay... and I'm ok with it our family accepted him and respected his choices and decisions in life which I think what matters most with regards to this kind of issue. The support and love of the family is much more important than the bad, negative comments and misjudgments of others. It is not a sin to be a gay because "He" is still a human being who fears god and know his rights after all. Walang kahit sinumang magsasabi na criminal at kasalanan ang pagiging bakla dahil pare-parehas tayong nilalang ng diyos bakla ka man o tomboy.

“If we are willing to fight against discrimination on the basis of these personal circumstances that have nothing to do with one’s capacity to work, why are we not able as a society to fight against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression? But I have to insist, these circumstances are not chosen and these circumstances are irrelevant especially when looking for a job or qualifying for a post in government. They should not be used as criteria in determining who should receive services from the government or who should be able to enter a public establishment like a hotel or a restaurant. That seeks to protect Filipinos who just happen to be LGBT, from discrimination at the workplace, in schools, in the delivery of government services, as well as access to commercial and public establishments. It also seeks to guarantee that Filipinos who happen to be LGBT will not be insulted in the streets, that they will be ‘outed’ without their consent. They say that the SOGIE bill is same-sex marriage. It is not. In fact, in one of the provisions where there was reference to professional licenses…we were careful to specify that these do not refer to marriage licenses. There are people who may have different sexual orientation and gender identity and expression. But these people have to be treated with dignity and respect. With the event open to controversial figures in order to spur intelligent dialogue on challenging issues, the organizers saw it fitting to invite as their first featured speaker the first openly transgender woman elected to the Congress of the Philippines, Hon. Geraldine Roman, who has snagged headlines for her bold efforts in advocating for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rights. The Bataan representative’s talk focused on equality and inclusivity in the society.

 

 

AIM MBM Batch ’95 organized Notables at AIM to further the renowned international management school’s advocacy in providing quality education. The batch also hopes to raise funds for scholarships.

 

 



The congresswoman is known as one of the champions of the SOGIE Equality Bill. She reiterated that the bill is an anti-discrimination bill. Roman also defended the bill based on the many accusations thrown by those who are against it. She further clarified that the bill will not infringe or violate religious freedom nor is the bill a gender recognition law. Roman closed her speech with an appeal to treat the members of the LGBT community with respect.

Istorya ng Pag-asa Film Festival 2020 on its 3rd Run!



 



The 2020 edition of the nationwide, all-digital film competition is being launched this Nov. 27. Now on its third year of inspiring stories of different people all over our country will get another chance to participate and win cash prizes plus a chance for their short films to be screened at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide.

Next year's INPFF will feature bigger cash prizes. Php 100,000.00 will be awarded to the year’s Best Film. The first and second runners-up will receive P50,000 and P30,000, respectively.
