InLife Sheroes shone the spotlight on women, led by Executive Chairperson and InLife Sheroes prime mover Nina D. Aguas, and InLife Dreamweaver, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, in an afternoon program that celebrated its achievements in the last five years.

Aside from Ms. Cuneta, other performers included veteran actress, singer and comedienne Mitch Valdez, multitalented performer Aryn Cristobal , Stand-up performer Nicki Morena. Versatile comedienne KaladKaren hosted the event.

Ms. Aguas recalled how from a goal of reaching one million Filipino women three years after its inception in 2019, InLife Sheroes, now 5 years old, has reached more than 6.5 million Filipino women through various on-ground and online activities.

“InLife Sheroes will reach out to more Filipino women so that they become empowered through financial education and inclusion. This will be done through various digital/online and on-the-ground initiatives nationwide coupled with partnerships with various like-minded organizations.” ~Nina D. Aguas, Executive Chairperson and InLife Sheroes Prime Mover

InLife Sheroes, InLife’s flagship program for women empowerment, was established in partnership with the  International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group. It aims to reach out to the relatively untapped segment of the women in the Philippines, especially women entrepreneurs who need life and health protection as well as financial solutions to expand their businesses. InLife Sheroes’ four focus areas are financial literacy, health and wellness, women-specific solutions, and access to social and business networks.

In order to exemplify these, InLife forged strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations such as the Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment, the University of the Philippines – Manila’s Mu Sigma Phi, I Can Serve Foundation, Imaginable Impact, For The Women Foundation, Connected Women and major hospitals in the country among others, aside from its bancassurance partner UnionBank of the Philippines, associate Insular Health Care, and social commitment arm Insular Foundation, Inc.

Recently, InLife launched a critical illness life insurance plan called Resilience Female Cancers, aimed at providing coverage for women who would suffer from nine kinds of cancers such as: breast, ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer; uterine sarcomas, malignant mixed mullerian tumors, malignant germ cell tumors, fallopian tube cancer and leiomyosarcomas.

Meanwhile, Ms. Cuneta, a Shero herself, launched a video series on her YouTube channel, with the first episode discussing the importance of choosing a healthier lifestyle and preparing for the financial impact of health emergencies.

During the anniversary show held at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Manila Peninsula on March 12, InLife also launched the InLife Sheroes Awards. The Awards Program will honor Filipino women who embody the four pillars of InLife Sheroes: champions of financial education, advocates for physical and/or mental health and wellness, accomplished women who work for the benefit of women and business leaders whose products and services address women’s needs. Nominations should be accompanied by a 500-word  write up on the nominee’s profile, explaining her advocacies and endeavors, and must be sent to inlifesheroes@insular.com.ph from March 12 to August 15, 2024.

InLife and GCash Partnership Sees P196M Transactions in 2021, Raises Women’s Role in the Digital Economy

InLife and GCash Partnership

Insular Life (InLife) recorded P196 million worth of transactions made through GCash from January to December 2021. This came from forty-six thousand transactions that were recorded using the GCash app for payments for various InLife insurance products.

InLife and GCash Partnership

But more than a channel to collect premium payments, the partnership between InLife and GCash serves a more meaningful purpose – inclusion.

Nina D. Aguas, InLife Chairperson

“Our partnership with GCash, the largest FinTech platform in the country, is the latest and, by far, the widest net we are casting in our financial inclusion agenda for women. GCash breaks the barriers for the millions of the unbanked to avail themselves of financial services and health solutions at the most convenient and safe way.” ~Nina D. Aguas, InLife Chairperson

InLife term life insurance and accident insurance plans that do not need medical examinations are now available through GCash since last year.  It also made the affordable emergency prepaid cards of its health subsidiary, Insular Health Care (IHC), available through GLife. The move is in line with InLife’s advocacy of promoting financial inclusion and empowering women through technology.

InLife and GCash Partnership

  • Empowering Women Through Financial Inclusion
“The Covid-19 pandemic has shifted the attitudes and behavior favorably toward getting adequate healthcare and insurance coverage. And data shows that it is the women who are active seekers not necessarily for themselves, but for their husbands, children, or parents.” ~Nina D. Aguas, InLife Chairperson

She noted that because of its reach and wide use, GCash is very suitable in influencing the health and financial security of the bigger communities, especially those who are financially excluded.

In her message during the event, GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon said that their partnership with InLife has enabled them to bring affordable and accessible insurance coverage to everyday Filipinos.

“This has allowed them access to relevant products ranging from life insurance to health care coverage through InLife and InLife Health Care, respectively. We are providing more Filipinos access to get covered more quickly and conveniently, giving them and their loved ones peace of mind. This is another step forward in our pursuit of financial inclusion – where we strive to make financial services more accessible to all Filipinos, especially for the unbanked and underbanked. Through our app, they now have access to digital financial services – even as the banking penetration remains low. Usage of our app is at an all-time high, as people now think of GCash as a digital life hack and more than just an e-wallet.” ~Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO

  • Inspired by the Sheroes Movement
IHC President and CEO Noemi G. Azura disclosed that their experience in the InLife Sheroes Movement, InLife’s women’s advocacy program, made them realize the importance of digital channels to reach Filipino women.

In a nationwide study conducted by InLife in 2018 for its Sheroes program, it learned that Filipino women are the primary caregivers in the family, including extended ones.

Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO

"We realized that online storefronts are viable distribution channels to reach more women who are looking for affordable protection products for life and health for their family. While tech is not usually a field women are associated with, our team at GCash is proof that it can happen – with women making up around half of our employee base.” ~Noemi G. Azura, IHC President and CEO

She added that digital technology is effective in terms of promoting awareness about the program, and in delivering educational activities on health and personal finance.

Ms. Sazon said that they are celebrating their partnership at a special time – Women’s Month.

  • Addressing Challenges in Financial Inclusion
Noemi G. Azura, IHC President and CEO
“It is our hope that millions of Filipinos will enjoy peace of mind knowing that they have life and health insurance coverage for themselves and their loved available through GCash.” ~Nina D. Aguas, InLife Chairperson

During the launch, InLife and GCash executives also took the time to discuss the challenges of financially empowering women and how both companies can address them.

InLife and GCash Partnership

Insular Health Care Head of Sales and Marketing Division Tricci Rose A. Sadian; InLife Vice President and Head of Digital Sales Distribution Geraldine G. Pascual; and GCash Assistant Vice President and Head of Financial Services, Distribution, BPO & CICO for Enterprise Kim Pineda shared their insights on financial inclusion for women. They also discussed the various products and services of InLife and GCash that cater to women.

InLife Sheroes #InAko Campaign Champions Grassroot Engagement

InLife Sheroes

The InLife Sheroes Movement is growing stronger, while getting deeper into the hearts of Filipino women.

During the InLife Sheroe’s #InAko campaign broadcast live over InLife’s FB page recently, thousands came to watch and engage with program host DJ Chacha and guests as they discussed topics that make a strong, independent, and empowered Filipina.

InLife Sheroes

The InLife Sheroes #InAko campaign challenges Filipino women to take a deeper understanding of their immense capacity to succeed no matter their personal circumstance, occupation, or station in life.
This was exemplified through the personal stories by its guests – mompreneur and blogger Shari Poquiz, health advocate Dr. Gia Sison, actress and women’s group prime mover Iza Calzado, and songwriter Abby Asistio – who shared about their experiences of becoming financially independent.

InLife Sheroes

InLife Financial Advisor Julianne Benitez, who was also part of the event, commended the guests for taking a stand to being financially empowered and shared several tips on how others can start on their journey to financial preparedness.

InLife Sheroes

The music video “Be A Shero”, composed by Abby Asistio, was also unveiled during the #InAko campaign launch. The song amplifies the message that Filipinas have the capacity to empower herself and calls on others to join the movement for financial transformation.

“When we launched InLife Sheroes in 2019, our initial ambition was to touch the lives of one million Filipino women within three years. Now that we have successfully touched their lives, it is time to go deeper, to fully explore this engagement so that their financial knowledge will lead to actual financial empowerment. We become the voice of women who were born without or who lost their voices simply because life happened (covid, gender bias, harassment, war, abuse, deprivation). We work so they are unmuted and find their voices again and regain the right and courage to speak for themselves.” ~Nina D. Aguas, InLife Executive Chairperson

She noted that through various activities and engagements with women from all walks of life, InLife achieved and exceeded the goal in just a little over a year.

Through the InLife Sheroes #InAko campaign, Insular Life will continue to champion financial empowerment by tapping and enlisting advocates and provide Filipinas equal opportunities for growth towards achieving financial empowerment for herself, her family, and communities, and ultimately for a financially inclusive nation.

Join the InLife Sheroes Movement and become an empowered Filipina.
