Sister Maria Rosa Leggol was a Franciscan nun who dedicated her life to giving refuge to the orphaned and abandoned children of Honduras. For over 70 years, Sister Maria fought to eliminate childhood poverty in her country, helping over 87,000 children and their families by providing them with shelter, food, education and vocational training. Sister Maria was an emblematic figure that doing good requires a balance of being tough, tender, kind, selfless, and most of all–brave.
The award-winning documentary shows a poetically interwoven narrative of the compelling present-day stories of these teenagers with the epic life and noble actions of Sister Maria Rosa. It follows the story of two young women trying to navigate their own uncertainties, pasts, and the current problems in Honduras.
With the mission to share the story of this courageous nun from Honduras, the team will host two free screenings in the Philippines. Executive Producer Jessica Sarowitz will be present to answer questions, share personal stories with Sister Maria, and reveal the in-betweens in the creation of the film. By hearing the story of Sister Maria and the two young women, may this ignite collective action to continue the mission started by the nun not just in Honduras but all over the world.
