Imagine a smartphone launch transformed into a fashion magazine cover—only this time, the cover comes alive.

TECNO brought that vision to the Philippines with the launch of the CAMON SLIM 5G through “MAKE IT LIGHTER: The Living Cover Runway.” More than a conventional tech event, the fashion-inspired experience celebrated modern Filipino women by putting their style, ambitions, responsibilities and personal stories in the spotlight.

The evening moved beyond product specifications and demonstrations to tell a larger story around TECNO’s “Make It Lighter.” philosophy. At the center was a smartphone that combines an exceptionally slim, easy-to-carry design with the capabilities to support the demands of busy, modern lifestyles.

For women constantly moving between work, daily commutes, family responsibilities, friendships, passions and personal goals, “lighter” can take on a deeper meaning. It can be about simplifying the way we move through life and finding smarter ways to carry the things that matter most. With the runway as its stage, TECNO brought that idea to life through fashion, movement and technology.

Not Models. Living Covers.

The highlight of the event was The Living Cover Runway, where 15 women from diverse backgrounds and walks of life took center stage.

Among them were celebrities and creators, as well as entrepreneurs, working mothers, business leaders, women in technology, community builders and everyday Filipinas with stories that cannot be defined by a single role.

The runway brought TECNO’s “Make It Lighter” message to life through personal storytelling. The concept was simple yet meaningful: every woman is the cover of her own story. As each participant stepped onto the runway, her name and identity were displayed on the LED screen before she walked forward with the CAMON SLIM 5G in hand. A narration followed, sharing a glimpse of her journey, her responsibilities and what “making life lighter” means from her own perspective.

15 Women, 15 Different Definitions of Strength

There was never meant to be just one version of the “CAMON woman.” Instead, TECNO used The Living Cover Runway to showcase women with different stories, responsibilities, ambitions and definitions of what it means to live life on their own terms.

Ely Halig, a solo working mom and advertising professional, shared a perspective shaped by her roles as a breadwinner and competitive padel player. Her journey challenges the idea that motherhood requires women to give up parts of themselves. For Ely, “Make It Lighter” means finding space for her career, raising her daughter and continuing to nurture the interests and identity that belong to her as an individual.

For Twinkle Dimayuga, being a solo mother became the starting point for creating a wider community of support. Her experiences contributed to the development of MAMA — Mothers Advocating through Ministry and Action, reflecting her belief that women do not always have to carry every responsibility alone. Her story gives “lighter” another dimension: sometimes, sharing the load and welcoming others into the solution can be a form of strength.

Other women on the runway represented journeys of reinvention, creativity, identity and growth, including Aubrey Miles, Carlyn Ocampo, Fuschia Anne Ravena, Max Collins and Megan Young.

The finale was led by Megan Young, actress, host and Miss World 2013. Her career across pageantry and entertainment captured the evening’s theme of continually evolving beyond one defining label. Her Living Cover appearance reflected the confidence, style and possibilities celebrated throughout the launch.

Rather than becoming another celebrity fashion presentation, the runway evolved into a visual collection of stories—offering a more personal look at the diverse experiences of modern Filipinas

Burgundy Red Becomes a Fashion Language

Burgundy Red, the hero shade of the CAMON SLIM 5G, became the defining color of the evening’s fashion presentation. While all 15 women wore looks connected by the rich burgundy palette, no two interpretations were exactly alike.

The styling moved away from identical gowns and traditional pageant fashion, taking inspiration instead from modern Filipiniana. Structured elements were combined with translucent materials, flowing drapes, pleats and movement, creating looks that reflected the individual character of each woman.

The fashion language shifted from one personality to another. Some silhouettes conveyed discipline and strength through sharper structures, while softer layers expressed themes of transition, vulnerability and freedom. Personal details drawn from careers, passions, family backgrounds and defining moments added another layer of storytelling to each ensemble.

A Launch Designed Like a Living Magazine

The magazine-inspired storytelling did not end when guests reached the runway. TECNO designed the entire CAMON SLIM 5G launch as an editorial journey, beginning at the entrance and continuing through a series of carefully curated spaces.

Guests moved through the Arrival Salon, explored portrait displays and product experience areas, and eventually arrived at the main editorial runway. Each space was conceived as another chapter in the same visual narrative, creating a more immersive experience than a conventional trade-show-style product launch.

Even the first impression followed the fashion direction, incorporating modern Filipiniana details and a hospitality-led environment designed to feel more refined and less visually crowded than a typical smartphone event.

Photography was integrated into the launch as part of a broader conversation about identity and the women behind the roles and labels society often assigns to them. The portraits became an emotional connecting point throughout the event, linking individual women and their experiences with the larger stories told during the evening.

For its Philippine chapter, the project will focus on working women, especially working solo mothers and the people who support them, exploring their journeys through the Filipino concept of diskarte. Here, diskarte represents the adaptability, wisdom and resourcefulness women use to find practical and meaningful ways forward.

Instead of defining these women primarily through challenges or sacrifice, the project looks beyond those narratives and asks a more personal question: Who are they beyond the labels placed on them?
