New Insights on Chocolate’s Attraction



In time for World Chocolate Day, Mondelēz International, a well-known snack company with well-known brands like Cadbury Dairy Milk, Tang, Eden Cheese, Cheez Whiz, and Toblerone, announced the release of its insights about the world's love for chocolate. The results are included in the company's fifth annual State of Snacking report, which highlights its continued dedication to comprehending customer preferences and providing the greatest snacking experiences while upholding its mindful snacking philosophy. 


The Universal Connection to Chocolate

Mondelēz International reports that, in honor of World Chocolate Day this July, an overwhelming 82% of global consumers think that "chocolate is good for the soul." This sentiment highlights the universal connection that people have with chocolate, spanning generations and geographical boundaries. Furthermore, according to 73% of consumers, chocolate has the sweet ability to “...turn an ordinary moment into something extraordinary,” emphasizing its ability to make everyone's everyday experiences more enjoyable and special. 


Chocolate: An Essential Source of Joy

It's important to remember that while the world enjoys this popular snack, 72% of consumers worldwide express concern that "...a world without chocolate would be a world without joy." This fear, which is reported to be consistent across various geographic locations, highlights the allure of chocolates as a source of happiness, comfort, and satisfaction. 


Chocolate vs. Social Media: A Surprising Choice

Chocolate is so beloved that 57% of respondents said they would prefer to give up social media for a month instead of going without chocolate for a month. This choice highlights the special joy that chocolate offers, which makes it a delicacy that people all over the world adore. 


The All-around Benefits of Chocolate

As part of the State of Snacking report, consumers also stated other various reasons for their love and fondness of chocolate
  • 73% agree that “savoring chocolate is like taking a mini vacation for your senses.”
  • 68% say, “the thought of chocolate brightens my day, every day.”
  • 60% believe that “breaking a chocolate bar isn’t just about the snack; it’s about breaking barriers and creating bonds with others.” 

These insights demonstrate that chocolate is more than just a treat; it’s a source of comfort, joy, and social connection that brings people together. 


Chocolate Consumption Trends

The survey also highlighted chocolate consumption habits:
  • 81% of global consumers eat chocolate at least monthly.
  • 56% enjoy consuming chocolate at least weekly.
